Metadata options in Library Filters

Learn about Metadata filters that let you sort photos based on date, camera settings, file attributes, and more.

Once you select a source in the Catalog, Folders, or Collections panel, you can select the Library module, and then use Metadata from the Library Filter panel.

Filters

Description

Date

Shows all unique capture dates present in the current source. Select a date to filter the grid to photos taken on that day.

Year/Month

Groups capture dates into year-month buckets (e.g., 2024/03).

Day/Month

Groups capture dates by day and month regardless of year, useful for finding photos taken on a recurring calendar date.

File Type

Filters photos by the file format of the original source file. Includes all formats Lightroom Classic can import and display.

Flag

Filters photos by their pick flag state, Flagged (picked for selection), Unflagged (neutral/unreviewed), or Rejected (marked for deletion).

Rating

Filters photos by the star rating assigned in Lightroom. A rating of 0 means no rating has been set.

Exported files (Export status)

Filters files based on Exported or Not Exported.

Label

Filters photos by the color label applied.

Keywords

Filters photos by keyword tags. Displays all keywords assigned to photos in the current source as a flat list. Select ‘No Keywords’ to show untagged photos.

Edit

Filters photos by whether any develop adjustments have been made. ‘No Edits’ means the photo is still at its default (zeroed-out) settings.

Camera

Filters photos by the camera model name recorded in EXIF metadata. Shows all distinct camera models present in the current source.

Camera Serial Number

Filters photos by the camera body serial number recorded in EXIF metadata. Useful for isolating shots from a specific camera body when multiple bodies of the same model were used.

Lens

Filters photos by the lens model name recorded in EXIF metadata. Shows all distinct lenses used across photos in the current source.

Focal Length

Filters photos by the focal length (in mm) recorded in EXIF metadata. Shows all distinct focal lengths present in the current source.

Shutter Speed

Filters photos by the shutter speed (exposure time) recorded in EXIF metadata, displayed in human-readable form (e.g., 1/500 sec).

Aperture

Filters photos by the aperture (f-stop) recorded in EXIF metadata, displayed as an f-number (e.g., f/2.8).

ISO Speed

Filters photos by the ISO sensitivity value recorded in EXIF metadata. Shows all distinct ISO values present in the current source.

Flash State

Filters photos by whether the flash fired during capture, as recorded in EXIF metadata.

Has GPS

Filters photos by whether GPS coordinates are embedded in their metadata. Has GPS shows photos with coordinates; No GPS shows those without.

GPS Location

Filters photos by reverse-geocoded country or region derived from embedded GPS coordinates. Requires GPS data to be present.

Location > Sublocation

Filters photos by the IPTC Sublocation field, which records a specific place within a city (e.g., a venue or landmark name).

Location > City

Filters photos by the IPTC City field.

Location > State

Filters photos by the IPTC State/Province field.

Location > Country

Filters photos by the IPTC Country field.

Creator

Filters photos by the IPTC Creator (photographer / author) field. Shows all distinct creator values in the current source.

Copyright Status

Filters photos by the IPTC copyright status field.

Job

Filters photos by the IPTC Job Identifier field, used to associate photos with a specific shoot, project, or assignment.

Develop > Aspect Ratio

Filters photos by the shape of the cropped frame, Portrait, Landscape, or Square.

Develop > HDR Edit Mode

Filters photos based on whether HDR Edit Mode is enabled in the Develop module. HDR Edit Mode unlocks a wider tonal range for HDR-capable displays.

Develop > Has Device Depth

Filters photos by whether a depth map captured by the camera (e.g., iPhone Portrait Mode) is embedded in the file.

Develop > Has AI

Filters photos by whether any AI-powered Develop feature has been applied (e.g Denoise, Super Resolution, AI Masking, Generative tools).

Develop > Has Generative AI

Filters photos by whether a Generative AI feature has been applied, such as Generative Expand or AI Remove with generative fill.

Develop > Needs AI Update

Filters photos whose AI edits need to be re-processed or updated. This occurs when AI edits have been applied out of order relative to the standard processing pipeline or when the required pixel data cannot be accessed from the associated .lrcat-data file. Loading indicates the status is still being computed; Error means the file could not be opened.

Develop > AI Edit

Filters photos by the specific AI edit type applied in the Develop module.

Develop > AI Edit Requiring Update

Filters photos by which AI edit type needs to be re-processed or updated. An edit requires an update when it was applied out of order relative to the standard or when the required pixel data cannot be read from the associated .lrcat-data file.

Develop > Masking

Filters photos by the type of mask applied in the Develop module’s Masking panel.

Develop > Remove (Manual)

Filters photos by the manual retouching tool used in the Remove tool — Content-Aware Remove, Generative Remove, Heal, or Clone.

Develop > Has Point Color

Filters photos based on whether a Point Color adjustment has been applied in the Color Mixer/HSL panel.

Develop > Develop Settings

Filters photos by the applied Develop settings category.

Develop > Has Smart Preview

Filters photos based on whether a Smart Preview has been generated. Smart Previews allow editing when the original file is offline.

Develop > Snapshots

Filters photos based on whether one or more Develop snapshots have been saved, allowing non-destructive recall of previous develop states.

Develop > Treatment

Filters photos based on whether the Color or Black & White treatment is active in the Develop module.

Develop > Metadata Status

Filters photos based on the sync status of their XMP metadata between the Lightroom catalog and the on-disk sidecar.

None

Removes the filter for the browser column and reduces the number of metadata columns open.
