Use the Enhance tools to improve image quality.
Enhance provides a set of features such as Denoise, Raw Details and Super Resolution to help improve image quality using Camera Raw.
- Denoise helps remove noise easily from an image. Using artificial intelligence, you can reduce noise without losing the image's fine details.
- Raw Details, previously called Enhance Details, produces crisp detail, improved color rendering, more accurate renditions of edges, and fewer artifacts. Raw Details is especially useful for making large prints, where fine details are more visible. This feature applies to raw mosaic files from cameras with Bayer sensors (Canon, Nikon, Sony, and others) and Fujifilm X-Trans sensors.
- Super Resolution helps create an enhanced image with similar results as Raw Details, but with 2x the linear resolution. This means that the enhanced image will have 2x the width and 2x the height of the original image, or 4x the total pixel count. This feature supports the same file types as Raw Details, plus additional file types such as JPEG and TIFF. Super Resolution is especially useful to increase the resolution of a cropped image.
Minimum system requirements
Your computer must meet the following minimum technical specifications to use the Enhance features:
Operating system
- (Mac) macOS Mojave (version 10.14) or later
- (Windows) Windows 10, version 1903 or later. See Windows 10 update history for details.
GPU
Enhance heavily uses the available GPU and can use an external GPU (eGPU) if available. View the graphics processor acceleration requirements in Lightroom Classic system requirements.
Note
- Enhance features (Denoise, Raw Details, and Super Resolution) and AI adjustments applied through batch workflows (Copy/Paste, Presets, Synchronize, and Auto-Synchronize) now run in the background, allowing you to continue using the app.
- You can now access Denoise, Raw Details, and Super Resolution in the Detail panel, as these features are now available as standard edit panel features.
- Apple Neural Engine does not provide support for AI Denoise on macOS.
Use the slider to adjust the intensity of the feature.
Note
- It's recommended to Denoise your image before applying other tools, including AI masks and Remove, as using Enhance might change the result of the tools used.
- Denoise is a GPU-intensive feature. Therefore, a faster GPU is recommended to enhance images quickly.
- Bayer and X-Trans mosaic raw files.
- Linear DNGs (including HDR and pano DNG images previously created inside Lightroom and Camera Raw)
- Smart proxies (DNG proxies)
- Monochrome raw files (such as Leica M MONOCHROM)
- Canon sRAW/mRAW files
- Nikon small raw files
- Fujifilm (non X-Trans Raw files)
- Sony ARQ
- Pentax Pixel Shift Resolution (PSR) files
- Foveon cameras
- Apple ProRaw DNGs
- Samsung Galaxy Expert Raw
Apply Raw Details
In the Detail panel, select Raw Detail.
Select Enhance to create an enhanced DNG version of your photo.
Raw Details is applicable to Bayer and X-Trans mosaic files only.
Unsupported file formats for Raw Details
Raw Details does not apply to the following types of source images:
- Non-raw files such as a JPEGs, TIFFs, and HEICs
- Linear DNGs (including HDR and pano DNGs created by Merge)
- DNG proxies (Smart Previews)
- Monochrome raw files (such as Leica M MONOCHROM)
- Four-color cameras (such as Sony F828)
- Foveon cameras
- Fujifilm cameras with SR, EXR, or 2x4 mosaic sensors.
- Nikon small raw files
- Pentax Pixel Shift Resolution (PSR) files
- Sony ARQ files
- Video files
- Adobe Merged HDR
- Adobe Smart Preview
- Apple ProRaw
- Canon mRaw/sRaw
- Nikon Linear Raw
- Samsung ExpertRaw
- Sony Linear Raw
- Google Pixel Raw
In the Detail panel, select Super Resolution.
Note
- If you're using Super Resolution in Lightroom or Camera Raw, see:
- Super resolution cannot be applied to images with a resolution higher than 128 MP or dimensions (width or height) greater than 32500 pixels.
In the Library or Develop module, select the images you want to enhance, and select the Auto-sync icon to apply the changes to all selected images together. You can enhance an image only once. You cannot reapply Denoise / Raw Details / Super Resolution to an already enhanced image.
