Introduction to the workspace

Photoshop on the web is a versatile digital imaging and design application that is available directly in your browser. The streamlined online interface with intuitive and precise editing tools gives you complete control over every last detail and seamless access to Photoshop’s most common and precise editing tools and generative AI capabilities. 

Check out the minimum system requirements that your device needs to meet to work with Photoshop on the web.

On the Home screen, you can begin by dragging an image from your computer, browsing your local files, or simply creating a new document by clicking the New File button in the upper right-hand corner.

• New file: Get started by creating and naming a new document, setting the canvas dimension, and dragging and dropping images from your computer. 
  
• Import: Import or drag and drop your file and open it in Photoshop on the web. 
• Help resources: View the new features and use the sample files and related learning resources.
  • For you: Find a list of learning resources tailored to your preferences..
    
  • Tutorials: View tutorials for the new features and use the sample files for step-by-step instructions in the hands-on tutorials.
    
  • Get started: Find more helpful resources for improving your learn experience. 
• Try quick actions: To perform basic edits or change your background settings, you can simply use the quick actions.
• Recent: Use the Recent section to access all the documents you worked on recently. You can easily filter files based on these categories: 
  • Everything: Find all your documents available as cloud documents in Photoshop.
  • Your files: View a list of all cloud documents in Photoshop, whether created in Photoshop on the web, iPad, or desktop. To learn more about cloud documents, see Photoshop cloud documents | Common questions.
    
  • Your projects: View a list of all projects that you have created in Photoshop, whether created in Photoshop on the web, iPad, or desktop.
  • Shared with you: View all the cloud documents that have been shared with you.

Workspace

When you select and open a cloud document, you enter the editing workspace, where you can find many of your favorite Photoshop tools, panels, and other options that will let you create breathtaking composites and retouch your creative work quickly on the go. The canvas displays the area where you interact with your open document. 

Header bar

Home: Use the app icon at the top left corner to switch back to the home screen from the editing workspace anytime.

A. File menu: Use the menu icon to find options to create or open files, save, export, layer, filter, file info, settings, and report a bug.

B. Cloud save: Check the status of your cloud document being saved to Creative Cloud.

C. Filename: Displays the name of the document currently open. 

D. Version history: Use this option to check previous versions of your open cloud document.

E. Current zoom level: Displays the current zoom level of the open document. You can select any of the zoom options such as Zoom in, Zoom out, Fit to screen, or enter Full-screen mode.

F. Undo-Redo: Undo reverts the last action performed, while Redo restores the last action undone.

G. Download: This enables you to download the desktop or mobile version of the app on supported devices.

H. Share: Invite more people to your document to edit, comment, or generate a link to share.

I. Search: The search icon lets you search for the tools and features you want to find in the app interface and guides you to the appropriate option.

J. Help: Use this option to find all your help resources and tutorials while working on your cloud document.

K. Account: The Account section displays the profile information associated with your Adobe account.

Toolbar

A. Size and position: Select to expand and find nested resizing and positioning tools: Move, Transform, and Crop.

B. Adjust: You can choose from several adjustment presets for applying edits or create adjustment masks to control — Contrast, Saturation, Exposure, Vibrance, Color balance, Black & white, and Gaussian blur. You can also use Levels and Curves adjustments to make specific adjustments.

C. Select: Select to reveal and find all of the selection tools and actions you can use to make a selection in your image—Select Subject, Object selection, Quick selection, Magic wand, Lasso, Rectangular marquee, and Elliptical marquee. 

D. Retouch: Select to expand and find nested retouching tools—Spot healing, Healing, Clone stamp, Dodge, Burn, and Sponge.

E. Quick Actions: Select to expand and find nested quick actions to apply quick edits. These quick actions are categorized under — Background, Lighting, Film, Subject, Effects, and Auto.

F. Paint: Select to expand and reveal various paint options — Brush, Eraser, Paint bucket, Gradient, and Smudge.

G. Type: Select to bring up the option to add a text layer. You can also find text styles and presets for text effects.

H. Edit background: Crop your selection, and choose to rotate and recenter.

I. Import image: Add images from your computer to your canvas.

J. Eyedropper: Easily change foreground color by sampling from any layer.

K. Color chip and Color switch View the selected foreground and background colors in the color chip. Also, select the color switch icon to switch between the foreground and background colors. 

L. Expand/Collapse: The forward arrows at the bottom of the toolbar enable you to collapse or expand the toolbar as you like.

Taskbar

A. Layers: Expands/collapses on click. See all the layer thumbnails in a simplified view. Also, see an expanded layer stack with masks, layer names, visibility, and group contents.
B. Layer properties: Expands/collapses on click. View blending options, adjustments, and dimensions for the type of layer selected (type, pixel, adjustment, and so on).
C. Comments: Expands/collapses on click. Add and/or view notes left for self or comments from fellow collaborators.

Contextual Task Bar

The Contextual Task Bar is a persistent menu that comes in handy when you are still ideating your next steps while working on your image in Photoshop on the web. 

The Contextual Task Bar keeps track of where you are in the application and dynamically changes to show more curated options for the potential next step based on your last action. You can always readjust the position of the Contextual Task Bar by holding the left edge and dragging it to the new position on the canvas.
