Learn how to use Rewrite to generate, rephrase, proofread, translate, or resize text to fit layouts.
Rewrite lets you generate and refine text in Illustrator. Create text variations for marketing copy, rephrase selected text, proofread content for grammar and spelling, translate content into supported languages, or resize text to better fit a text box or layout.
Note
Rewrite workflows don't use generative credits, except Fit text, which uses 1 credit per generation.
Generate or Rewrite selected text
Select Type > Rewrite.
You can also access Rewrite from the Quick Actions section of the Properties panel and the right-click menu.
In the Contextual Task Bar that appears, select Rewrite from the dropdown options.
In the prompt field, enter a prompt as required to generate text. Leave the prompt field empty to rephrase the selected text automatically.
Tip
Use short, specific prompts to generate more accurate text variations and layout-friendly results.
Select Generate.
Review the generated variations in the Properties panel and select a variation to replace the original text.
Select Reset to restore the original text if necessary.
Note
Rewrite doesn't use the surrounding artwork as context when generating text.
Translate text
Select a text box containing text.
Select Type > Rewrite.
In the Contextual Task Bar that appears, select Translate.
Select a target language.
Select Generate.
Review the generated variations in the Properties panel and select a variation to replace the original text.
Select Reset to restore the original text if necessary.
Any translated text uses the default font for the selected language.
Proofread text
Select a text box containing text.
Select Type > Rewrite.
In the Contextual Task Bar that appears, select Proofread.
Review and apply the proofread result.
Select Reset to restore the original text if necessary.
Note
Translation, proofreading, and rephrasing workflows support up to 4096 input characters and only support languages available in Illustrator.
Resize text to fit layouts
Select a text box containing text.
Select Type > Rewrite.
In the Contextual Task Bar that appears, select Fit Text.
Select Generate to shorten or expand text to better fit the selected text box or layout.
Review and apply the updated text in the layout as required.
Select Reset to restore the original text if necessary.
Provide feedback on generated variations
Once you review the generated variations of your creations in the Properties panel, you can use the following options to provide feedback:
- Good output : Upvote the variation if you liked it, and share detailed feedback in the form that appears.
- Poor output : Downvote the variation if you didn't like it, and share detailed feedback in the form that appears.
