Select the Generative tool in the Toolbar to open the Generative AI panel. You can also navigate to Generative from the Window menu.

Generate custom images for your videos with AI.
Introduced in Premiere Elements 2027.
With Generate Image in Premiere Elements, you can describe the image you want in a few words and let the app generate it for you. Generated images can be dropped straight onto your timeline or into your project assets, so you can fill a gap, or try out an idea without leaving your project.
Note
Generated images are saved to your device and remain accessible from the History tab for future use.
Note
Generate Image is a generative AI feature and uses generative credits. The number of credits a generation uses depends on the model you choose. To learn more about credits, see Generative Credits.
Generate an image using a prompt
Choose a generative model.
Firefly Image 4 is selected by default, you can also choose GPT Image 2.

In the Prompt field, type a description of the image you want.
Enter a prompt to describe the style, mood, colors, lighting or artistic effect you want.
(Optional) Choose an aspect ratio for the image.

(Optional) Add a reference image.
Select the Add reference image icon in the Reference Image field and choose an image you wish to use as a reference.

Tip
The Reference Image helps guide the style, lighting, colors, and composition of the generated results to better match your vision. Use a high-quality reference image for the best output.
Select Generate, to generate the image.
Generated images appear in the Generated Results section beneath the Advanced Options. To generate additional variations, click Generate again.
Note
Before generating, make sure the Prompt field is filled in. If the prompt field is empty, Premiere Elements displays an error message.

Firefly Image 4 returns four image variations for a single prompt. The other models, GPT Image 2 and Gemini 2.5 (Nano Banana) return a single image.
The Advanced options in Generative AI provide additional controls to refine the AI-generated results. The available Advanced Options include the following:
Once your images are generated, you can:
- Add it into your timeline by selecting the Add to timeline option or by simply dragging and dropping it into your timeline.
- You can also add it directly into your project assets using the Add to project assets option.
- Use a result as a reference image for a new generation.
- Copy the prompt that created it.
- Like or dislike a result to tell us how it turned out.
To build on an image you have already made, you can add an image or select one of your earlier outputs and use it as a reference image for your next generation. You can also attach it to your project assets or add it to the timeline. This makes it easy to iterate on an idea and reuse what’s working.
Tip
Add a reference image before generating to help produce more accurate results.
Every image you generate is saved to the History panel. Open it to browse your earlier generations, view your files in folders, and copy a prompt to reuse it. From the History panel you can also attach an image as a reference, or add it to your project assets or timeline.
These generated images are available within the panel and may vary depending on the selected model. Users can use these images as reference images for subsequent generations or copy prompt.
Generate Image uses generative credits, and the cost depends on the model. Firefly returns its four variations for one credit, while the other models use ten credits per output.
When your available credits are low or exhausted, the app displays your remaining credit balance and provides a Buy Now option to purchase additional credits. If you run out of credits, wait until your monthly credits reset or upgrade your plan.
Note
Premiere Elements and Photoshop Elements plans purchased individually include 25 generative credits per month. The Premiere Elements & Photoshop Elements bundle includes 100 generative credits per month. If you need additional credits, you can subscribe to a Firefly plan, which provides 2,000 generative credits per month.

Your subscription status - standard or premium - is shown in the interface and affects how credits are used and which features you can access. Premium accounts may include extra benefits or reduced costs for some models.
