Collaborate and share designs

Learn how to coedit your design project with fellow designers and share them with your stakeholders and developers for feedback.

XD powers end-to-end collaboration at every step of the design process - from editing in realtime with other designers to working with developers and designers to gather feedback.

Combined with the power of document history, you can coedit your designs with your fellow designers to accelerate design cycles, eliminate duplicative work, and avoid conflicting versions.

You can also collaborate with your team and stakeholders by sharing your prototypes for review, user testing, or presentation

Coedit designs

Often, you and your fellow designers work on the same project but have distinct roles and responsibilities. Instead of creating  multiple versions of the same design document, or wait until a fellow designer has updated the current document, use Coediting to simultaneously access and edit an XD cloud document.

Invite to coedit

Enable coediting
Enable coediting

Try these steps to invite fellow designers to coedit your designs:
  1. Save your document to the cloud using File > Save As.
  2. Click  and select Enable coediting.
  3. Enter Adobe IDs (email addresses associated with Adobe account) of your fellow designers and click Invite.

When you invite fellow designers to coedit a design document, they are notified through their Creative Cloud desktop application or email.

Edit designs collaboratively

You can collboratively edit a design document and view real-time changes that are saved as you work. When you coedit a document with your fellow designer, you see:

  • A color coded avatar of fellow designers on your design project.
  • A bounding box with the same color as their avatar when they edit a layer in your design; you can also hover over the bounding box and view their name.
  • Simultaneous edits in realtime as they navigate around and make changes.

Use document history to view the iterations of your collaborative designs and maintain a single source of truth.

To access the document history of your design, click  on the XD command bar. By default, versions are named based on time and date stamps, and are autosaved at regular intervals.

Adobe XD does not support reverting to previous versions; however, you can open a version of the document in XD from document history, copy and paste the content to your current version.

Since auto-saved versions expire after 30 days, use  to name versions and permanently save them.

You can also preview and open previous versions from Creative Cloud website, but not create, open, edit, or save.

Tips for coediting

You cannot disable Coediting for your document; however, to end coediting and revoke access rights, you can remove your collaborators from your invite.

Avoid coediting the same object with a fellow designer to prevent overwriting. XD retains the edits that reach the server first and other changes are discarded.

Use a high-speed Internet connection to minimize lag in viewing and editing documents. If you lose your connection, cloud documents syncs your changes once online.

Share designs and prototypes

So, you have your designs or prototypes ready for sharing?

XD consolidates the sharing capabilities in a centralized location and makes collaboration with your reviewers, developers, and other stakeholders a breeze.

Go ahead and navigate to Share mode, and explore the different possibilities such as managing multiple published links, using custom resets while publishing, identifying the artboards to be published, and retaining the same URL for custom presets and iterations.
