3D Text | Project pulsar (Beta)

Creating and editing 3D text is foundational to Pulsar.

Create custom 3D text

To create a new 3D text object:

  1. Ensure nothing is selected.
  2. Select the Add text button at the top of the timeline.
  3. Click on the text edit box to reveal the virtual keyboard.
  4. Type your desired text and confirm.

Note

As an alternative to typing into the virtual keyboard, you can use Android XR’s voice-to-text functionality by tapping the microphone icon on the virtual keyboard and simply speaking the words you want typed.

Edit a text object

To edit text objects:

  1. Select a text object in your scene.
  2. Tap the Edit text button at the top left of the timeline panel.
  3. Tap the text box to reveal the virtual keyboard.
  4. Edit your text by typing or with voice-to-text.

Use text presets

Think of text presets as recipes that have a set of specific ingredients that determine how a text object looks. Choosing a text preset sets the font, material, color, and 3D depth for that text object.

To add new text with a text preset:

  1. Activate the Text tool from the Toolbar.
  2. Browse the text preset list.
  3. Select a preset from the Side panel.
  4. Edit the text.

To apply a text preset to selected text:

  1. Select a text object in your scene.
  2. Ensure the Presets tab is selected at the top of the timeline panel.
  3. Select a preset from the list in the Side panel.

Select a font

Pulsar comes with a set of fonts you can choose from.

To change a text object’s font:

  1. Select a text object in your scene.
  2. Ensure the Fonts tab is selected at the top of the timeline panel.
  3. Select a font from the list in the Side panel.
Note

If you have chosen a specific font for a text object and then select a text preset your text object will inherit the text preset’s font.

Change text color

To change a text object’s color:

  1. Select a text object in your scene.
  2. Ensure the Color tab is selected at the top of the timeline panel.
  3. Use the Color sliders to pick any color.

Swatches of recent colors are available, allowing you to quickly and easily make consistent color selections for other text objects in your scene.

Adjust 3D options

To change a text object’s 3D depth:

  1. Select a text object in your scene.
  2. Ensure the 3D settings tab is selected at the top of the timeline panel.
  3. Use the 3D depth slider to set how much depth your text object has.

You can set whether or not your text object accepts the environment light by toggling Accept light on or off.
