Error 41 causes installation failure

Last updated on Nov 19, 2025

Learn how to resolve error code 41 "Unable to access a critical file/directory" during Adobe app installation.

Error 41 occurs when the Adobe installer can’t access required system files or folders due to restricted permissions. This occurs when your user account lacks permission to modify system files or when installer folders have incorrect access settings.

Follow these solutions to resolve the issue.

You don't have administrator privileges

Adobe apps require administrator access to install system files and modify registry entries. Before proceeding, ensure that your user account type is set to Administrator.

Installer files have restricted permissions

Incorrect file or folder permissions can prevent the installer from accessing required files. Make sure both the installer files and their parent folders are unlocked and that your account has sufficient access.

If the issue still persists, download and install the Creative Cloud desktop app using the direct download links.
