Error 5 causes installation failure

Last updated on Dec 9, 2025

Learn how to resolve error code 5 "Unable to move GC files" during app installation.

Error code 5 occurs when the gccustomhook process fails to move the AGSService file from its temporary installer folder to its permanent location. If this file transfer fails, the installation gets stuck. This issue can occur when the temporary installer files are incomplete or corrupted, the destination folder has restricted permissions, or one of the AGSService files is locked by another process.

Missing files or incorrect folder permissions

To resolve this issue, remove the existing AdobeGCClient folder and allow the Creative Cloud desktop app to automatically restore it.

Go to the AdobeGCClient folder and delete it along with all its contents.

  • Windows: C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\AdobeGCClient
  • macOS: /Library/Application Support/Adobe/AdobeGCClient

Select the Apps tab in the left pane.

In the upper-right corner, select Check for updates.

If any updates are available, install them. Once the update process is complete, Creative Cloud automatically rebuilds the AdobeGenuineClient folder during the update.

When prompted, select Accept or Deny on the Adobe Genuine Service consent dialog box based on your preference.

  • Accept allows Adobe Genuine Service to run in the background and verify the authenticity of your Adobe apps.
  • Deny prevents the service from running. You can still install and use your apps, but you may see reminders asking you to allow the service again.
