Error 10 causes installation failure

Last updated on Dec 9, 2025

Learn how to resolve error code 10 "Verification failed on existing GC install" during app installation.

Error code 10 occurs when the gccustomhook process fails to verify an older or incompatible version of the Adobe Genuine Service before installing the latest version. The gcustomhook process is an internal Adobe component that checks and updates Adobe Genuine Service files during installation.

When verification fails, the installer cannot continue. Deleting the existing AdobeGCClient folder allows the verification step to complete successfully and lets the Creative Cloud app install the latest version.

Existing or outdated Adobe Genuine Service installation

To resolve this issue, delete the existing AdobeGCClient folder so that the Creative Cloud desktop app can install a fresh version.

Note

Ensure you’ve closed all Adobe apps and no background processes are running before deleting the folder.

Go to the AdobeGCClient folder and delete it along with all its contents. Find the existing folder in the following location:

  • Windows: C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\AdobeGCClient
  • macOS: /Library/Application Support/Adobe/AdobeGCClient

When prompted, select Accept or Deny on the Adobe Genuine Service consent dialog box based on your preference.

  • Accept allows Adobe Genuine Service to run in the background and verify the authenticity of your Adobe apps.
  • Deny prevents the service from running. You can still install and use your apps, but you may see reminders asking you to allow the service again.
