Learn how to render, share, and review compositions with Frame.io directly in Adobe After Effects.
The Frame.io V4 panel is built into After Effects and included in the Review workspace by default. It lets you render and upload compositions, browse Frame.io projects, manage shared links, and review comments from a single panel.
With Frame.io in After Effects, you can:
Render and upload compositions directly to Frame.io from the Compositions tab using your existing Render Queue settings.
Share rendered compositions through a configurable Share Link, letting reviewers view the latest version, add feedback, and collaborate using Frame.io.
Review to add public or internal comments, replies, file attachments, emoji reactions, and drawn annotations directly on a composition frame.

Sync comments as timeline markers, allowing you to navigate directly to the corresponding moment in the timeline.
How it works
Select Window > Frame.io V4 to open the Frame.io V4 panel and start collaborating. The Frame.io V4 panel organizes your work into the following two tabs. By default, the panel opens to the Compositions tab, where you can render and upload your compositions.
- Compositions: This tab lists every composition in your current project that's connected to Frame.io, including compositions currently in the Render Queue and those already exported.
- Browse: This tab lets you browse your Frame.io workspaces, projects, and folders. It allows you to organize content, create links to share, and manage files without leaving After Effects.

When you render and upload your compositions to Frame.io, render settings are preserved and can only be changed in the After Effects Render Queue.
Use the Frame.io V4 panel to send a composition from the Render Queue to a Frame.io workspace, project, or folder. Make sure your composition is active and follow these steps:
In the Render Queue, configure your Render Settings and Output Module according to your output requirements.
Select the Export Render Queue button in the Compositions tab of the Frame.io V4 panel.
Set your upload destination in Frame.io by specifying Workspace, Project, and Folder.
Toggle Upload Markers as Comments on to convert composition markers into Frame.io comments during upload.
Select Render & Upload to start rendering and automatically upload the completed render to Frame.io.
Once the composition is rendered and uploaded to Frame.io, you can share the file directly from the viewer panel using the following steps.
In the viewer panel, select Share.
Configure the Share settings as needed. You can:
- Give the shared composition a custom name.
- Set the shared composition as public or secure.
- Add specific viewers by email address.
- Specify permissions for commenting and downloading the shared composition.
Note
You can also specify other advanced share settings included in your Frame.io plans.
Select Done to share your composition with the specified collaborators, who can view and comment on it.
After your composition is shared, collaborators can add comments, replies, attachments, reactions, and drawn annotations on a frame, which you can sync back to After Effects as timeline markers.
Open a composition in the Frame.io V4 panel.
In the viewer panel, scrub through the composition to identify frames that need review comments, then use the following review tools:
- Add a comment and mark it public or internal.
- Reply to an existing comment.
- Attach a file to a comment.
- Add an emoji for the reviewed frame or to review comments
- Draw directly on the frame to add a review comment.

In the viewer panel, select the Comment Markers icon at the upper-right corner of the Frame.io V4 panel to sync comments into your After Effects timeline. Each Frame.io comment appears as a marker at the correct moment in your composition, regardless of how many comments are on the asset.
Select any comment in the panel, and the Current Time Indicator jumps to that moment in the timeline.
