Use natural-language requests in the AI Assistant to organize projects, write and debug expressions, and generate images and videos in Adobe After Effects.
Use new beta features
After Effects AI Assistant is now available for testing and feedback. Try it now in After Effects (beta).
The AI Assistant is a feature in After Effects (Beta) that lets you complete tasks using natural language, right from a single prompt bar. Ask it to organize layers and compositions, write or debug expressions, or generate images and video with Adobe Firefly and its partner models.
You can use the AI Assistant icon in the header bar and also the Quick Apply option in the Timeline panel.
In the prompt bar of the Assistant panel, type what you want the Assistant to do.
For example, you can type a plain-language request in the prompt bar, then press Enter, such as one of the following:
- To organize your project, select the layers, compositions, or folders you want to organize, or skip this step to organize the whole project. Then type a request such as "rename these layers by what they show" or "color-code my compositions by type."
- To work with expressions, select the layer and property that has, or needs, an expression. Then type a request such as "explain this expression," "write an expression that loops this animation," or "why is this expression throwing an error?"
- To generate images and video, type a request describing the image or video you want, such as "generate a background plate of a city skyline at night."
Tip
To explore common prompts, select the icon next to Start with a sample prompt.
Select the Add a new chat icon in the upper-left corner of the Assistant panel to start a new chat.
If you want to view all the active and past chats, use the icon next to the Add a new chat icon.
To undo a change, select Edit > Undo. Undo steps through one change at a time, rather than the whole request at once.
By default, the Assistant asks for your permission before it takes an action in your project, such as applying a change or generating an asset. Select the settings icon in the prompt bar to choose how the Assistant handles permissions. Select Always ask permission to review and approve each action individually, or select Approve permission automatically to let the Assistant proceed without stopping to ask each time.
