Migrating existing custom Composition presets
Migrate and update custom composition presets in Adobe After Effects to ensure compatibility, preserve settings, and maintain consistent workflows across versions.
After Effects 23.0 release includes revamped Composition Presets that completely replace the old preset list. If you have existing custom composition presets, they will not be migrated automatically. You can either rebuild and save the composition presets or migrate your existing presets manually.
Open the Adobe After Effects 23.0 Prefs-indep-composition.txt file located in your Preferences folder.
- Windows: C:\Users\[Username]\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\After Effects\23.0
- macOS: \Users\[Username]\Library\Preferences\Adobe\After Effects\23.0
For example, if you had a custom composition preset called My Custom 1749x984 Preset with an index of 034. It would be:
"034" = "My Custom 1749x984 Preset"
029 in this example is the next preset number in the list after the newly created list. If you do this for multiple presets, increment the number each time.
"029" = "My Custom 1749x984 Preset"
"034" = 06D503D8001800000000000100000001
Once done, your newly migrated custom composition preset will start reflecting in the Composition Presets list.
