Support for Citrix XenApp

Note:

This article applies to Adobe Connect versions that supports Adobe Connect add-in. Starting Nov 2017, Adobe introduced the new Adobe Connect application for desktop that replaces the old Adobe Connect add-in for Adobe Connect version 9.x and later. If you are on Adobe Connect version 8 or earlier, you can continue to use Adobe Connect add-in.

Adobe Connect supports Citrix XenApp Server. This support allows you to connect to an Adobe Connect Meeting room from thin clients via the Add-in. You have full meeting functionality (VoIP, Screen sharing, and so on) and participation (Host, Presenter, or Participant access).

The following versions of Citrix Xenapp are supported based on your version of Connect.

  • Adobe Connect 8 supports XenApp server 6
  • Adobe Connect 9.0 supports XenApp server 6
  • Adobe Connect 9.1, 9.2 and 9.3 support XenApp server 6.5
  • Adobe Connect 9.4 supports XenApp server 7.5

Install the AddinChecker as an Administrator

Before doing the steps below, ask the XenApp Administrator to confirm that they have the AddinChecker install file (setup.exe) copied to their system. This file can be downloaded via the following URL: www.adobe.com/go/adobeconnect_addinchecker. The steps require a login with Administrative access to the XenApp server. It also requires access to a meeting room they can join with the Adobe Connect Add-in.

  1. Log in to the XenApp server as an Administrator and run the AddinChecker installation file.
  2. Ensure that an entry for the AddinChecker is visible in the following directory:  <root>\Program Files\Adobe

Publish a browser to the server farm

If a thin client can't have a browser, you can launch a browser virtually through the XenApp web interface. There are instructions on Citrix's website that detail how to publish applications to an existing XenApp installation, However, here is an overview of the steps:

  1. Under the Citrix Delivery Services Console, right-click your Server Farm, click New, and Publish Application (browser). The Publish Application wizard starts.
  2. Click Next, and enter a display name and description for the browser.
  3. On the Type screen, select Application and Accessed From a Server.

  4. On the Location screen, under Command Line, select the executable file for your browser of choice (for example, iexplore.exe for Internet Explorer). Click Next.
  5. In the Working Directory field, enter the location of the web browser's executable file.
  6. On the Servers screen, select the servers from the XenApp farm to host the browser by clicking Add. (You can select multiple servers, if necessary.)
  7. Select which users can access this application, by way of a Directory Server.
  8. (Optional) Select an application shortcut icon.
  9. Select Next to finalize the publishing process

Launch an Adobe Connect Meeting Room in the Add-in

Once the publishing process is complete, you can log in to the XenApp web interface and see your application (in this case, a web browser) published.

  1. Double-click the browser listing in your XenApp web interface.
  2. Once the browser has been launched, log in to Adobe Connect and open a meeting room.

  3. Ensure that the meeting room launches in the Adobe Connect Meeting Add-in.

The web browser is deployed to all selected users.

Log in to XenApp

Once the web browser has been deployed, there is one final step to complete before users can begin launching Adobe Connect meeting rooms in the Add-in.

To complete the add-in installation process, all XenApp users use remote desktop to log in to the XenApp server with their credentials. Logging in allows the AddinChecker to copy the remaining files into the users folder for the Add-in.

Once this step is completed, all users of Citrix XenApp can use the Adobe Connect Add-in.
