Primary and secondary controller
By default, Reviewer treats the right-hand controller as the primary controller; however, you can switch the handedness of your controls from the Preferences menu with the Primary controller setting.
Controls on the rest of this page will refer to the primary and secondary controller following the diagram below (click to zoom):
Whenever controls are mentioned in this documentation, they are linked to this page for easy reference.
The primary controller always has a beam pointing out of the top of it. This beam acts like your cursor. Point the beam at a button or control, and pull PT to select it.
View controls while in a Review
At any point while you're in a scene, you can select Show button layout from the Quick access menu to see labels for each of the controls on your controllers.
Navigate the scene
As a VR platform, your movements will be reflected in the virtual space, but you can also use the controllers to move around beyond your physical boundaries.
Smooth movement can cause dizziness and motion sickness for those inexperienced with movement in Virtual Reality. We generally recommend using Teleport to move around the space unless you're already very comfortable with VR.
There are three ways to use the controllers to move:
Teleport
Teleporting instantly moves you from one location to another. There is a slight fade to black when teleporting to help reduce motion sickness.
To teleport:
- Use PJ↑ to start selecting a position to move to.
- When the line pointing out of the primary controller is blue, you are pointing at a valid teleportation location.
- Release PJ to teleport.
While you are holding PJ↑ over a valid location, a blue ring appears on the floor with an arrow showing the direction you will face after teleporting. Without releasing the joystick, you can rotate PJ to change the direction you'll face after teleporting.
Snap turn
While standing in place, you can change the direction you're facing with PJ ⇄
By default, this rotation happens in 30° increments. You can change the increment angle in the Preferences menu.
Smooth movement
Smooth movement allows you to glide around the room and make fine changes to your position. To use smooth movement, move SJ in any direction.
You can turn on Locomotion vignette in the Preferences menu to add a dark border while using smooth movement. This can help to reduce motion sickness.
