VR quick start guide | Substance 3D Reviewer

Substance 3D Reviewer is available in VR through the Meta Horizons store . If you are using a supported headset, you can follow these instructions to download Reviewer to your device.

On first launch, you will need to sign into Reviewer with your Adobe ID. If you don’t have an Adobe account, you can learn how to create a free Adobe account here.

Note

It is not possible to upload assets from within the VR application. Instead, you can upload an asset through the browser version of Reviewer, then use the Open in VR button to launch Reviewer on your headset.

VR Controllers

You can interact with menus and items in VR by pointing the primary controller at menu items and pulling the trigger. The primary controller has a white beam pointing away from it, so you can easily tell which controller is which.

By default, the primary controller is the right-hand controller. You can change the primary controller to the left hand in the Preferences

Launch the tutorial

The Reviewer tutorial covers the basic controls while in a review, including how to move around the scene, open panels, add comments, and more.

You can access the tutorial from the left side of the Reviewer Home page at any time.

Join a review

By default, the Reviewer Home page shows a list of Reviews you’ve created. You can also use the primary controller trigger to open the Shared with you tab to see assets that other users have invited you to review.

Once you’ve selected an asset to review, a dialogue appears where you can toggle your microphone, and choose to either go back to the Home panel, review the asset in solo mode, or join the review.

Note

To return to the Home page while in a review:

  1. Open the Quick access panel with S1.
  2. Select the Home option from the Quick access panel.

Move around

As a VR platform, your movements will be reflected in the virtual space, but you can also use the controllers to move around beyond your physical boundaries. There are three ways to use the controllers to move:

  1. Use PJ↑ and point to anywhere in the environment to teleport to that location.
  2. Use PJ⇄ to turn left or right in increments.
  3. Use SJ to move continuously in a direction.
Note

Continuous movement in VR can cause motion sickness. As a result, we recommend using the teleportation method to move around the environment, unless you are an experienced VR user.

You can adjust settings for how these controls work in the Preferences.

Review an asset

You can access many of the tools and options you need to review your asset in the Quick access panel. To open the Quick access panel, use the top button on the secondary controller. With the Quick access panel open, you can use your primary controller trigger to select options.

Use the View controls button from the Quick access panel to view labels for controller buttons and control surfaces.

Additional controls are available on the primary controller:

  • Hold PT to use the Laser pointer. This is useful for pointing out specific areas of the asset during a review with other users.
  • Move the asset with PG.
