Windows versions of Adobe Premiere Pro CS5 and Adobe After Effects CS5 require a 64-bit edition of Windows Vista or Windows 7. This requirement applies to the stand-alone versions of the applications. It also applies to the components of Adobe Creative Suite 5 Production Premium and Adobe Creative Suite 5 Master Collection.

You cannot install or run Adobe Premiere Pro CS5 or After Effects CS5 on any of the following operating systems:

  • 32-bit and 64-bit editions of Windows XP Home or Professional
  • 32-bit editions of Windows Vista Home Basic, Home Premium, Business, Ultimate, or Enterprise
  • 32-bit editions of Windows 7 Starter, Home Premium, Professional, or Ultimate

32-bit vs. 64-bit support in Creative Suite 5

If you are using a 32-bit Windows operating system, Adobe recommends that you upgrade to either:

  • 64-bit edition of Windows Vista Home Premium, Business, Ultimate, or Enterprise
  • 64-bit edition of Windows 7 Home Premium, Professional, or Ultimate

To ease the transition to a 64-bit operating system, CS5 Production Premium and CS5 Master Collection include a 32-bit support package. The package contains 32-bit versions of Adobe Premiere Pro CS4 and After Effects CS4.

Until you upgrade to a compatible 64-bit operating system, you can install and use the 32-bit support package included with your purchase. After you upgrade to a compatible 64-bit operating system, you can install and use Adobe Premiere Pro CS5 and After Effects CS5.

Important: If you are upgrading from CS4 Production Premium or CS4 Master Collection you can continue to use your existing installations of Adobe Premiere Pro CS4 and After Effects CS4. You can also continue to use Adobe OnLocation and Adobe Encore. You do not need to install the 32-bit support package.

If you are upgrading from a stand-alone version of Adobe Premiere Pro CS4 or After Effects CS4, uninstall it before you install the 32-bit support package. The stand-alone versions of Adobe Premiere Pro CS4 and After Effects do not include Dynamic Link. Install the 32-bit support package to benefit from Dynamic Link.

Install CS5 Production Premium or CS5 Master Collection with 32-bit video support from disc

Before you start, close all applications and be sure that you have administrative privileges or can validate as an administrator.

The components of your suite edition are on multiple DVDs:

  • Adobe Creative Suite 5 Application DVD set (multiple discs)
  • Adobe Content DVD (a single disc, contains the 32-bit support package)
  • Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro Application DVD (a single disc, CS5 Master Collection only)

The product box also contains serial numbers for the following:

  • Adobe Creative Suite 5
  • 32-bit support for CS5 Production Premium and CS5 Master Collection (Adobe Premiere Pro CS4 and After Effects CS4)
  • Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro (Master Collection only)
  • Color Finesse CS5
  • Color Finesse CS4

Locate all installation media and serial numbers before you begin the installation process.

Note: If you purchased an upgrade, a qualifying serial number is required to complete the installation.

Install the suite from disc

  1. Insert the Adobe Creative Suite Application DVD 1 disc into your DVD drive, navigate to the root directory, and double-click Set-up.exe to begin installation.



    Note: Depending on your AutoPlay settings, the Set-up.exe file can launch automatically.

     
  2. Follow the onscreen instructions to install Adobe Creative Suite.
  3. When prompted  for a serial number, enter your Adobe Creative Suite 5 serial number. You are sometimes asked to close conflicting processes to complete the installation process.

If you are upgrading from CS4 Production Premium, you can stop here.

If you are upgrading from CS4 Master Collection, go to (CS5 Master Collection only) Install Acrobat 9 Pro from disc.

If you are upgrading from a stand-alone version of Adobe Premiere Pro CS4 or After Effects CS4, go to Install the 32-bit support package from disc.

Install the 32-bit support package from disc

If you are upgrading from a stand-alone version of Adobe Premiere Pro CS4 or After Effects CS4, uninstall it before you can install the 32-bit support package:

  1. Open the Windows Control Panel.
  2. Double-click Programs and Features (Windows 7 and Vista) or Add Or Remove Programs (Windows XP).
  3. Select the product that you want to uninstall, and then click Uninstall/Change or Change/Remove.
  4. Follow the onscreen instructions.

To install the 32-bit support package:

  1. Insert the Adobe Creative Suite Content Disc into your machine.
  2. Open the Adobe After Effects and Adobe Premiere Pro CS4 For Win 32 Bit folder.
  3. Open the Adobe CS4 folder.
  4. Double-click Setup.exe.
  5. Follow the onscreen instructions to install the 32-bit support package.
  6. When prompted for a serial number, enter your 32-bit support for CS5 Production Premium and Master Collection serial number to complete the installation. You are sometimes asked to close conflicting processes to complete the installation.

(CS5 Master Collection only) Install Acrobat 9 Pro from disc

If you already have Acrobat 9 Pro, either as part of a suite or as a stand-alone component, you do not need to reinstall it. If you're an existing Acrobat 9 Pro user, download and install the most current updates for Acrobat 9 Pro. To check for updates, open Acrobat 9 Pro, and choose Help > Check For Updates.

If you have Acrobat 8 or earlier installed on your computer, uninstall it before you can install Acrobat 9 Pro.

  1. Uninstall Acrobat 8:



    • (Windows XP) Open the Windows Control Panel and double-click Add or Remove Programs. Select the product that you want to uninstall, click Change/Remove, and then follow the onscreen instructions.



    • (Windows Vista and Windows 7) Open the Windows Control Panel and double-click Programs and Features. Select the product that you want to uninstall, click Uninstall/Change, and then follow the onscreen instructions.
  2. Insert the Adobe Acrobat 9 Application DVD into your drive, navigate to the root directory, and double-click Setup.exe.
  3. Follow the onscreen instructions to install Acrobat 9 Pro.
  4. When prompted for a serial number, enter your Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro serial number and complete the installation.

Install CS5 Production Premium or CS5 Master Collection with 32-bit video support from an electronic download

The components of your suite edition are contained in multiple downloadable packages:

  • Adobe Creative Suite 5
  • 32-bit support for CS5 Production Premium and CS5 Master Collection

If you purchased CS5 Master Collection, you also have to download a third package:

  • Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro

Each package contains two files: a .7z file and an .exe file.

Your purchase also includes serial numbers for the following products:

  • Adobe Creative Suite 5
  • 32-bit support for CS5 Production Premium and CS5 Master Collection (Adobe Premiere Pro CS4 and After Effects CS4)
  • Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro (Master Collection only)
  • Color Finesse LE 3
  • Color Finesse LE 2

Install the suite from an electronic download

  1. After completing your purchase, click Download Your Products to go to the Your Downloads page.
  2. On Your Downloads, click the Akamai Download Manager link for Adobe Creative Suite 5 and wait for the files to download.
  3. Close all open applications, including your web browser.
  4. Navigate to the directory where you saved the installation files.
  5. Double-click the .exe file associated with your product to extract the installation files.

    The filename is based on the product you purchased, for example, ProductionPremium_CS5_LSx.exe.
  6. After the files finish extracting, the installer launches automatically. If the installer does not start automatically, locate the folder that contains the extracted files. There is a folder named for the product that you purchased. Open the folder, open the Adobe CS5 folder, and double-click Set-up.exe.
  7. Follow the onscreen instructions to install Adobe Creative Suite.
  8. When prompted for a serial number, enter your Adobe Creative Suite 5 serial number and complete the installation. You are sometimes asked to close conflicting processes to complete the installation.

If you are upgrading from CS4 Production Premium, you can stop here.

If you are upgrading from CS4 Master Collection, go to (CS5 Master Collection only) Install Acrobat 9 Pro from an electronic download.

If you are upgrading from a stand-alone version of Adobe Premiere Pro CS4 or After Effects CS4, go to Install the 32-bit support package from an electronic download.

If you are upgrading from a stand-alone version of Adobe Premiere Pro CS4 or After Effects CS4, uninstall it before you can install the 32-bit support package:

  1. Open the Windows Control Panel.

To install the 32-bit support package:

  4. Double-click AfterEffects_PremierePro_CS4_ALL.exe to extract the installation files. After the files finish extracting, the installer launches automatically.
  5. If the installer does not start automatically, then locate the folder that contains the extracted files. Open the Adobe Premiere Pro And After Effects CS4 32-Bit Support For CS5 folder, open the Adobe CS4 folder, and then double-click Setup.exe.
  6. Follow the onscreen instructions to install the 32-bit support package.
  7. When prompted for a serial number, enter your 32-bit support for CS5 Production Premium and Master Collection serial number to complete the installation.

(CS5 Master Collection only) Install Acrobat 9 Pro from an electronic download

If you already have Acrobat 9 Pro, either as part of a suite or as a stand-alone component, you do not need to reinstall it.   5. Double-click APRO930_Win_ESD1_[language].exe to extract the installation files.
  6. After the files finish extracting, the installer launches automatically. If the installer does not start automatically, locate the folder that contains the extracted files. Open the Adobe Acrobat 9 folder, open the Acrobat 9 folder, and double-click Setup.exe to begin installation.
  7. Follow the onscreen instructions to install Acrobat 9 Pro.
  8. When prompted for a serial number, enter your Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro serial number and complete the installation.
