Learn how to add a border to an image and customize its color, thickness, and style using border effects in Adobe Express.

Apply borders
Select the image on the canvas.
Select the Effects tab.
In the Border section, select a style, such as Solid, Asphalt, Bubble, Floral, or Neon.
For the full set of styles, select View all in the Border section.
Tip
Borders trace the edges of a rectangular image or the outline of a cut-out subject. To trace just the subject, remove the background from your image first, then add the border.
Customize borders
With a border applied, select the settings icon on the selected style.
Adjust any of these settings:
- Thickness: Set the border thickness with the Thickness slider or the value field.
- Color: Choose a border color from a swatch or a custom hex value.
- Style: Switch to a different border style without changing your color or thickness.
Note
Borders are supported on images, such as JPG and PNG, and on shapes. Your changes preview live on the canvas and export at the full resolution of your design.
Remove a border
Select the image on the canvas.
Select the Effects tab.
In the Border section, select None.
