After Effects feature summary (May 2024 release)
The May 2024 (24.4) release presents new features, workflow improvement, and important fixes in After Effects.
Pre-propagated frames accelerate object extraction during Freeze
With the latest update, After Effects has significantly improved the workflow with Roto Brush 2 and Roto Brush 3. Now, there's no need for the After Effects to recalculate each frame during the Freeze step. Instead, it intelligently caches inference for already propagated frames. This translates to a faster Freeze process and more efficient extraction of objects from footage, saving you valuable time.

Easily identify the color label for your project items, keyframes, layers, and markers
With color swatches displayed next to the color names, identifying the color you'd like to set for your project items, keyframes, layers, or composition marker labels is easy and quick.

Animate faster with the ability to copy and paste keyframes from multiple layers at the same time
Earlier, copying and pasting keyframes across multiple layers created a new layer in the composition. With the latest update, you can copy keyframe selections that span multiple layers and paste them anywhere in the timeline without creating a new layer. Use this capability to replicate animation sequences across different layers without manually setting keyframes for each instance, especially for animations that involve repetitive movements or patterns.

Reverse paste keyframes to save time, maintain consistency, explore variations of animations, and enhance workflow efficiency
The new capability in After Effects to copy multiple frames spanned across multiple layers and reverse paste them anywhere in the timeline allows the use of existing animation keyframes in a mirrored or reversed manner without having to recreate them from scratch.
Copy a set of keyframes in the timeline and use Command + Shift + v (macOS) and Ctrl + Shift + v (Windows) to reverse-paste them. This saves time and makes sure of consistency in the timing of animations especially for repetitive or looping animations and ones that demand reversed symmetrical movements.

Quickly navigate to the earliest In and latest Out points when multiple layers are selected
Use the I and O keyboard shortcuts to move the current-time indicator (CTI) to the earliest In point and latest Out point in the timeline respectively, even when multiple layers are selected. Previously, these shortcuts would only work for the topmost layer in the selected layer stack. This update simplifies your workflow by allowing you to quickly navigate based on your selection's collective In and Out points.
Learn about ways you can use current-time indicator (CTI) while working in After Effects.
