Issue

When you try to install Adobe After Effects, Encore, Adobe Premiere Pro, Production Studio, or Production Premium, the installation fails. The system crashes or the following error message appears:

"Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Error. This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact the application support team for more information."

Solution

Do one or more of the following:

Solution 1: Disable the DLA service (if applicable).

On some systems, you can turn off the DLA service from the Properties settings of the drive from which you are installing. To turn off the DLA service, do one of the following tasks:

Turn off DLA from the disc drive context menu:

  1. Open My Computer.
  2. Right-click the disc drive from which you are attempting to install.
  3. If there is a Use With DLA option, deselect it.
  4. Click OK to apply the changes.
  5. Restart your computer.

Turn off DLA from the disc drive Properties settings:

  1. Open My Computer.
  2. Right-click the disc drive from which you are attempting to install.
  3. Select Properties.
  4. Select the DLA tab.
  5. Deselect the Enable DLA On Your Drives option.
  6. Click OK to apply the changes.
  7. Restart your computer.

Solution 2: Disable startup items and services.

Antivirus software, firewall software, anticrash software, or other applications and services that are typically loaded when Windows starts can interfere with installation. You can temporarily disable non-essential startup items and services by using the Windows System Configuration Utility.

To disable startup items and services:

  1. Quit all applications.
  2. Choose Start > Run, type msconfig in the Open box, and then click OK.
  3. Click the Startup tab, and select Disable All.
  4. Select startup items that are essential for testing the problem. If you are unsure if an item is essential, leave it deselected.
  5. Click the Services tab, select Hide All Microsoft Services, and then select Disable All.
  6. Click OK, and then click Restart to restart Windows.
  7. When the computer has restarted, right-click to close or disable any items in the Notification Area (called the System Tray in earlier versions of Windows).

Note: Restart Windows in Normal mode before launching Adobe After Effects, Encore, or Adobe Premiere Pro.

Solution 3: Run the installer from a new Administrator account.

Create a different Local Administrator account on the system and run the installer from the new user.

Additional Information

This error occurs when you have DLA (Drive Letter Access) software installed on your computer.

Important:  Defective or out-of-date third-party software components (for example, codecs, plug-ins, and drivers) cause many instances of problems that return strings containing "C++ Runtime Error." Be sure to update all third-party software if you receive such an error message. The solutions described in this document are only intended for the specific case in which DLA software causes the error.
