Supported form types

Acrobat on mobile supports two types of PDF forms:

  • Acroforms contain interactive fields such as text inputs and checkboxes that you can fill in from any platform. However, editing the form structure, such as adding, modifying, or removing fields, is only supported in Acrobat on desktop, not on mobile.
  • Fill & Sign forms can be created on any platform, including mobile devices. You can select a form element from the toolbar and tap anywhere on the PDF to place it. The Fill & Sign tool supports adding and editing form fields and auto-filling profile data.
Note

XFA forms (dynamic or static forms created with Adobe LiveCycle Designer) are not supported. Acrobat cannot open these form types on mobile.

How PDF forms work

PDF forms contain interactive fields that capture specific types of information. When you open a form in Acrobat on mobile, these fields become active areas where you can enter text, make selections, or add signatures. You must be signed in to your Acrobat account to view comments, form data, and signatures in a PDF.

Forms sync automatically to Adobe cloud storage as you work, so your progress is preserved when you switch devices. The form's structure remains consistent across both mobile and desktop. You can fill out and sign forms whether you are online or offline.

Filling and signing forms

On both Android and iOS, Acrobat provides Fill & Sign capabilities for all users. You can:

  • Complete text fields using your device keyboard
  • Select options such as checkboxes and dropdowns
  • Add handwritten signatures using your finger or stylus

For text fields, Acrobat may suggest values based on data you have entered previously. Once completed, signed forms can be shared directly through various workflows available in the app.

Editing and signing forms limitations

You can modify existing fields in a form using the Edit PDF feature. The following restrictions apply to both Android and iOS:

  • Form fields cannot be modified or deleted after a form is signed and saved.
  • Form elements cannot be added to Acroforms or signed forms.
  • Signed forms cannot be edited.
  • Saved documents are flattened, and signatures cannot be removed.
  • Signatures cannot be viewed as a list within a document.
  • Documents shared for review, shared for view-only, or password-protected cannot be signed.
  • Profile data autofill is not supported in Acroforms.
Note

Acrobat on mobile supports files secured via Adobe LiveCycle Rights Management Server, including document revocation. For details, refer to the Mobile Enterprise Guide.
