Get answers to frequently asked questions about using Student File Transfer.
Adobe Student File Transfer (SFT) is a flexible and easy-to-use Adobe file copy service that anyone with an active, institution-provided school account can use to copy files between their school account and their personal Adobe account.
Users can access Adobe Student File Transfer at filetransfer.adobe.com. Users who previously accessed the service at graduation.adobe.com can continue to use that URL as well.
Yes, Adobe Student File Transfer can be used by anyone with an active, federated-identity school account.
Generally, if your university or school provided you with an account to use Adobe software, it should be supported by Student File Transfer. Typically, these accounts will have usernames like studentname@schoolname.edu. In contrast, free or paid student/teacher plans, teams plans, and other account types may not be usable with the service.
If you already have an Adobe personal account, you can use it. If not, Student File Transfer will allow you to create one as part of the setup process.
Adobe Student File Transfer has been updated with a new file picker experience that helps you avoid running out of space. You can select the files you want to copy, and Student File Transfer will warn you if there isn't enough space to complete the operation. While most users will not encounter this situation, if you do, simply return to the picker and reduce your selections. If you have additional files to copy, you can use a second personal account to copy the remaining files, or add storage space to your personal account through another Adobe account plan.
No, the service can be used an unlimited number of times to copy files between any qualified education institution account and any qualified personal account.
No. The service copies files rather than moves them. The original files will remain in the source account even after the transfer is completed.
You can always re-run Student File Transfer to retrieve updated versions of files that have been edited since the last copy operation.
The new file picker provided with Student File Transfer allows you to hand-pick only the files you want and exclude the ones you don’t need or already have. In addition, the service keeps track of prior copy operations and warns you if any selections have been copied previously to help you avoid potential duplication.
Yes. Student File Transfer can be used to copy files either from an education institution account to a personal account or from a personal account to an education institution account.
Copying files from one geographical region to another isn't supported. Your school and personal account must be located in the same geographical region. For example, if your school account is in the United States, you cannot transfer assets to a personal account in Japan.
Free Adobe accounts come with several free entitlements, including Adobe Express, Adobe Firefly, Adobe Acrobat Web, and more, as well as 5GB of storage.
Students can go to www.adobe.com, select Sign in, and then select Create an account to get a free account. Once logged in, you can see a full list of all the free services provided. A free account does not include access to Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Premiere Pro, and other Adobe products, or access to premium services and content.
If your school account provided access to premium content with your Adobe products, that content generally will not be supported once the files are copied to a free personal account. The premium content may still be viewable in your personal account, but you'll not be able to save or export the project until all premium content is removed or you switch to an Adobe account plan that includes premium entitlements.
Adobe Student File Transfer does not currently support Behance or Portfolio assets as part of its normal file copy process. Learn more about how to use the Portfolio transfer service and move a Behance profile between accounts. These are separate, one-time file transfers, not file copy services.
The Behance and Portfolio tools are both one-time account migrations, unlike Student File Transfer, which is an anytime file copy service. Students who use these tools should consider those differences when determining their file and account transfer plans.
Adobe Stock photos already downloaded from Adobe Stock and saved to the Creative Cloud files directory are copied just like other assets. You cannot download more photos from Adobe Stock when using a free personal Adobe account.
Adobe Fonts are removed from your local machine after you copy assets. Any website created with Adobe Fonts will revert to non-paid fonts after the copy.
This is a partial list of the Adobe products that Student File Transfer supports. Please note that only files stored in the Adobe cloud can be copied. Files stored locally on a user’s computer will not be included in the transfer.

As a rule, any content added to Adobe files by anyone other than you will not be transferred when copying files between accounts. This includes features like sharing links and comments added by other users as part of group projects, as well as files that were shared with you that you do not own. Files that you created and shared with others are copied over, but sharing links are not preserved.
