Create quick cuts using your uploaded media in a few simple steps.

Quick Cut in Firefly video editor (beta) helps you quickly assemble your video clips, images, and audio into a cohesive preliminary cut. By combining your uploaded media with AI assistance, you can create an initial video layout that's ready to be refined and edited.

This feature works with both new and existing projects in the Firefly video editor. To generate a quick cut, you need:

  • A Firefly account with access to the Firefly video editor
  • Video, audio, or image files ready to upload from your device

On the Firefly home, select Create in the left panel and then Edit video.

In the Upload media panel, choose Select files to select video, audio, and image files from your device, or drag and drop files directly into the panel.

Add media files to start a new project, or use existing files in your current video editing project.

Select Open to add your chosen files to the editor.

Enter a name for your project and select Create project to open the video editor window, where all the selected media will be arranged in a timeline.

Select Quick cut in the upper-right corner to open the Quick cut panel.

Open Quick Cut and generate a preliminary rough draft for your video idea.

Go to the Use media from dropdown menu and define which media files Quick Cut should use. Select one the these:

  • Current Project: Utilize all media files added to the project.
  • Current Timeline: Utilize all media files added to the timeline
  • Current Timeline Selection: Utilize only the selected media files from the timeline.
Note

If your timeline is empty, you'll see a No media detected message— in this case, choose the Select files option to add media to your timeline.

In the What kind of video do you want to create? prompt box, enter a prompt describing the story idea you want to create.

Tip

Writing effective prompts helps Quick Cut create better results. Focus on describing the mood, pacing, and narrative flow you want rather than specific technical details.

From the Aspect ratio dropdown menu, select your preferred aspect ratio for the video.

  • Automatic
  • 16:9 YouTube, Vimeo
  • 2:1
  • 4:3 Facebook ads
  • 5:4 Instagram, Facebook

  • 3:4 Reels, Stories
  • 9:16 TikTok, Stories, Shorts
  • 1:1 TikTok, Reels
  • 4:5 Instagram, Facebook
  • 2:3 Reels, Stories

From the Video Duration dropdown menu, select how long you want the final video to be. You can choose from:

  • Auto
  • 30 seconds
  • 60 seconds
  • 90 seconds
  • 3 minutes
  • 5 minutes
  • 10 minutes

Select Create B-roll track if you want to add supplemental video shots over your main timeline.

Creating a B-roll may increase the processing time of the quick cut generation.

Select Create to generate your initial video draft.

If your timeline is empty, the output is added automatically to it. If your timeline already contains content, select Open timeline to open the generated quick cut in a new window, or select Start over to restart the process.

Select Start over to begin creating a new video draft.

Once processed, you can use other Firefly video editor features to create new content, adjust the transcript, adjust clip timing, add transitions, or incorporate additional effects.
