Learn to generate video using Luma AI video models in the Firefly video editor and add it to the timeline.
Generate videos in the Firefly video editor using Luma AI models, such as Ray2, Ray3, and Ray3 HDR, which offer different performance and quality characteristics. Each model provides unique capabilities for transforming your prompts and images into video content.
Open a project or create a new one to access a timeline.
Select the Generation settings icon from the right panel next to the video preview.
Enter a descriptive text prompt in the prompt box explaining what you want to generate.
Under General settings, select the Model dropdown menu and choose one of the Luma AI models: Ray2, Ray3, or Ray3 HDR.
Select the Resolution dropdown menu to select a resolution option:
- Ray2: 540p, 720p, and 1080p.
- Ray3 and Ray3 HDR: 360p, 540p, 720p, 1080p, and 4k.
If you want to add a first frame for the video generation, under the Frame section, select First and upload an image.
When you select Ray2 as the model, you can also add a last frame image. To add a last frame image, select Last under Frames.
After selecting First or Last, use the Current frame option to use the frame where the playhead is positioned as the start or end frame of the generated video. For best results, ensure your first and last frame images are visually compatible with the action or transition you describe in your text prompt.
Select your preferred Aspect ratio from the available options:
- Ultra Wide (21:9)
- Widescreen (16:9)
- Landscape (4:3)
- Square (1:1)
- Portrait (3:4)
- Vertical (9:16)
- Ultra Tall (9:21)
Select the desired Duration for the generated video from:
- Ray2: 5 seconds or 9 seconds.
- Ray3: 5 seconds or 10 seconds.
For Ray3 HDR the duration is set to 5 seconds by default and cannot be changed.
Ray2 allows you to repeat the generated video. Activate the Loop toggle to loop the generated video in the timeline sequence.
Select Generate to generate your video.
Drag the generated video from the Generation history panel and drop it onto your timeline.
Your generated video is now part of your project and can be edited, trimmed, or combined with other media clips in the timeline.
