Edit images with text prompts

Learn how to use prompts to modify images directly in your Figma workflow.

You can edit and transform existing images by describing the changes you want in everyday language. Use Firefly’s image editing capabilities right in your Figma workspace and change design elements. Prompt to Edit helps you change specific elements within an image while maintaining its overall composition.

Before you begin, make sure you have:

  • Figma desktop app or Figma in the browser
  • Adobe GenStudio plugin installed in Figma
  • Active Adobe account with Firefly access

Set up your image for editing

In the Firefly plugin, select the Prompt to Edit option.

Select an image by:

  • Selecting an existing image on the Figma canvas.
  • Selecting Upload image to add from your device.
  • Selecting Browse AEM assets to access assets from Adobe Experience Manager.

Select the settings icon to open the General settings window and adjust the Aspect ratio.

Select the back button to return to the main generation screen.

Enter a text prompt describing the changes you want to make to the image.

Select the generate icon .

Bring images onto the canvas using one of these methods:

  • Drag and drop an image directly onto the canvas
  • Select a frame on the canvas, then select an image in the plugin window to insert it
  • Select the upload icon to place an image on the canvas
  • Select the three dots icon and then select Download to Figma.
Tip

Select the three-dot menu to access additional options like Generate more for new variations or Copy prompt to reuse your text description. Select the edit icon on the generated result to access tools such as Generative Fill and Generate Similar.
