Best practices for Reframe Videos in Creative Production

Last updated on Oct 1, 2025

Learn how to effectively use Firefly Creative Production’s video resizing and reframing preset workflow for optimized outputs.

Here are some key considerations when preparing videos for auto-resizing and reframing using the Reframe Videos (beta) preset workflow in Creative Production.

Videos with a single subject

  • To ensure your video can be successfully cropped to fit different aspect ratios, it's best to use center-cut safe footage featuring a single, clear subject.
  • If your intended subject is not the most visually prominent in frame, you can add focal point keywords to point out the subject to highlight.

Videos with multiple subjects

When processing a video, Reframe Videos (beta) adjusts the framing whenever the focus shifts to a different subject. To allow smooth tracking and consistent framing throughout the video with multiple subjects:

  • Use videos with minimal motion to keep the focus steady during subject changes.
  • Use a single continuous shot with few cuts, angle changes, or sudden transitions.

Videos with graphics and text

  • Ensure that graphics such as text and logos are aligned with the primary subject or adjusted according to scene changes. For instance, wide-screen graphics may be cut off when the camera auto-selects and reframes the subject, especially during motion or scene transitions.

Other considerations

  • When using focal point keywords, Reframe Videos (beta) will detect and focus on the visually largest subject for reframing.
  • If using a wide-angle lens, keeping the subject centered in your source video. It will help avoid lens distortion when reframing a subject at the edges of your video.
  • Reframing will sometimes track your subject to keep it in frame. This might accentuate in-camera artifacts such as shake, jitter, or rolling shutter.
