Dynamic Graphics Render API overview

Last updated on Mar 6, 2026

Learn about Dynamic Graphics Render API (DGR) and how it connects motion graphics templates (MOGRTs) created in Adobe After Effects with an API-driven automation workflow.

The Dynamic Graphics Render API uses motion graphics templates (MOGRTs) with a data-driven automation workflow that binds a structured data source (i.e., CSV) for scaled rendering. Unlike the traditional use of MOGRTs, the DGR API unlocks scalable video variations while maintaining brand consistency and production quality. Key benefits include:

  • Scale from a single template: Create multiple video variations from one template by dynamically changing images, audio, text, CTAs, and personalized elements—ideal for campaign optimization.
  • Localization made easy: Merge customer-provided localized text from external datasets into structured templates to automatically render language and region-specific versions—without rebuilding the video.
  • Efficient workflows: Automate manual video editing tasks to improve creative efficiency and reduce production bottlenecks—enabling creatives to render multiple video variations without relying on After Effects experts.
What’s a Motion Graphic Template?

Motion Graphics Templates, or MOGRTs, are reusable templates created in Adobe After Effects that are typically used inside Adobe Premiere to standardize approved graphics components. They allow motion designers to create professional graphics for video, such as lower thirds, titles, intros, and outros, with customizable text, colors, and images. In this typical workflow, Premiere users can update those elements without opening After Effects and keep branding consistent, and speed up editing workflows.

Key features and capabilities

Customizing MOGRTs

  • Content Swap (text, image, audio, or video): Create multiple variations from a single template, preserving composition, timing, and animation. For example, updating text or offers for e-commerce video ads, replacing featured products in product explainer videos, or replacing on-screen text with another language for localization.
  • Expression support: Sliders, checkboxes, and dropdown support for maximum controls and configuration.
  • Full 2D and classic 3D capabilities: Unlock full creative control in 2D or 3D compositions for engaging graphics that drive audience engagement. Substance 3D and Maxon Cinema 4D are not supported.
  • Custom encoder presets: Set the video encoder to support popular video formats such as Apple ProRes and H264. This helps manage file size and quality and conform with your video pipeline settings.
  • Custom fonts, vertical text, and copyfitting: Allow any licensed font-face to be used for brand consistency, language, and creative control. Support for all After Effects font features, expressions, and layout.
Note
The current DGR API supports MOGRTs created in After Effects 2025 and earlier. Compatibility for MOGRTs created in After Effects 2026 is planned for a future update.
