Edit images using text prompts

Last updated on Feb 27, 2026

Learn how to add, remove, or transform objects and backgrounds in images using Firefly image editor.

Use simple text prompts to quickly edit and transform your images in the Edit an image feature. Add, remove, or modify objects and backgrounds by describing the changes you want in everyday language to create precise, visually consistent edits.

On the Firefly homepage, select Create in the left panel and then Edit an image.

To start editing, upload your image from Your device, drag and drop it into the editor, or add one from Adobe cloud storage.

In the prompt bar, use the model dropdown menu to select Adobe or any partner model.

Tip

Enable Google search when using Gemini 3 (w/ Nana Banana Pro) and Gemini 3.1 (w/ Nano Banana 2) models by toggling the Use Google Search option to enhance image generation with real-time information. When activated, this feature allows the model to incorporate up-to-date data from Google search results, improving responses to time-sensitive prompts. For example, if you enter "clothing appropriate for NYC today," the model checks current weather conditions and generates relevant image suggestions, such as warm winter attire.

From the aspect ratio dropdown menu, select a preferred aspect ratio for your image. The available aspect ratio options may vary depending on the model you choose.

Note

Firefly and Gemini 3 (w/ Nano Banana pro) both support output resolutions of 1K and 2K, while Gemini 3.1 (w/ Nano Banana 2) also supports 4K.

Based on the models that you choose, you can also add Reference or Subject images if you want to keep a specific subject consistent or shape the final look and feel of your generated image.

The following example demonstrates GPT Image 1.5 image generation using two reference images and the prompt: “A yellow vase with a tulip on a table, set against a valley backdrop.”

From the left toolbar, select Prompt and add a text prompt that describes what you want to edit in the image. You can use everyday language to write the text prompt to describe what you want to change, add, or improve, and the image generation model will apply the edits directly to your image.
