Partner models to generate images

Learn how to generate image variations in Firefly Boards using both Adobe and partner models.

While working in Boards (beta), you can generate image variations and place them directly onto the canvas. You have the flexibility to choose from the following Adobe models or partner models:

Generate images using Flux 1.1

On the Firefly homepage, select Boards (beta).

On the Boards page, select Create new board.

Select Describe what you want to generate at the bottom of the page.

In the Prompt bar, select Image and then use the dropdown menu to choose Flux 1.1 ProFlux 1.1 Ultra, or Flux 1.1 Ultra (Raw).

The list of Firefly and Non-Firefly models is available to choose from to generate images and add them to the canvas. Currently, the Firefly Image 3 (Fast) is highlighted.
You can choose from the available partner models to generate images and add them to the canvas.

Use the Sample from canvas   icon to select an existing image on the canvas as your reference, or select the Upload image reference   icon to upload an image from your device.

Use the Aspect ratio option to select from the available dimensions for the image.

To use additional generation settings, select the Generation settings  icon next to the Aspect ratio options. This activates the right-side panel, which includes the following additional settings:

  • Sub-prompts: You have to option to browse through a range of sub-prompts from lighting to styles. When you select the preview thumbnails of the sub-prompts, they get added to the prompt bar.
  • Seed: You can add a seed number that helps start the process and controls the randomness of what the AI creates. If you use the same seed, prompt, and control settings, you can generate similar video clips.

Add a text description in the prompt bar. 

Select Generate.

Generate images using Flux Kontext

On the Firefly homepage, select Boards (beta).

On the Boards page, select Create new board.

Select Describe what you want to generate at the bottom of the page.

In the Prompt bar, select Image and then use the dropdown menu to choose Flux Kontext Pro or Flux Kontext MAX.

Use the Sample from canvas   icon to select an existing image on the canvas as your reference, or select the Upload image reference   icon to upload an image from your device.

Use the Aspect ratio option to select from the available dimensions for the image.

To use additional generation settings, select the Generation settings  icon next to the Aspect ratio options. This activates the right-side panel, which includes the following additional settings:

  • Sub-prompts: You have to option to browse through a range of sub-prompts from lighting to styles. When you select the preview thumbnails of the sub-prompts, they get added to the prompt bar.

Generate images using GPT Image

On the Firefly homepage, select Boards (beta).

On the Boards page, select Create new board.

Select Describe what you want to generate at the bottom of the page.

In the Prompt bar, select Image and then use the dropdown menu to choose GPT Image.

Use the Sample from canvas   icon to select an existing image on the canvas as your reference, or select the Upload image reference   icon to upload an image from your device.

You can also edit, such as adding an element to the uploaded image using the text prompt.

Generate images using Imagen 3 and 4

On the Firefly homepage, select Boards (beta).

On the Boards page, select Create new board.

Select Describe what you want to generate at the bottom of the page.

In the Prompt bar, select Image and then use the model dropdown menu to choose Imagen 3 or Imagen 4.

Use the Sample from canvas   icon to select an existing image on the canvas as your reference, or select the Upload image reference   icon to upload an image from your device.

Note

The Image option to upload a reference image is available only for the Imagen 3 model.

Use the Aspect ratio option to select from the available dimensions for the image.

Select Generate.

Generate images using Gemini 2.5 Flash Image

On the Firefly homepage, select Boards (beta).

On the Boards page, select Create new board.

Select Describe what you want to generate at the bottom of the page.

In the Prompt bar, select Image and then use the model dropdown menu to choose Gemini 2.5 Flash Image.

Use the Sample from canvas   icon to select an existing image on the canvas as your reference, or select the Upload image reference   icon to upload an image from your device.

Apart from generating a new image using the uploaded image as a reference, you can also edit it by adding elements using a text prompt.

Generate images using Ideogram 3.0

Select Describe what you want to generate at the bottom of the page.

In the Prompt bar, select Image and then use the model dropdown menu to choose Ideogram 3.0.

Use the Sample from canvas   icon to select an existing image on the canvas as your reference, or select the Upload image reference   icon to upload an image from your device.

Use the Aspect ratio option to select from the available dimensions for the image.

To use additional generation settings, select the Generation settings  icon next to the Aspect ratio options. This activates the right-side panel, which includes the following additional settings:

Generate images using Runway Gen-4 Image

On the Firefly homepage, select Boards (beta).

On the Boards page, select Create new board.

Select Describe what you want to generate at the bottom of the page.

In the Prompt bar, select Image and then use the model dropdown menu to choose Runway Gen-4 Image.

Use the Sample from canvas   icon to select an existing image on the canvas as your reference, or select the Upload image reference   icon to upload an image from your device.

Apart from generating a new image using the uploaded image as a reference, you can also edit it by adding elements using a text prompt.

Use the Aspect ratio option to select from the available dimensions for the image.

Select Generate.

In addition, Content Credentials — a “nutrition label” for digital content that provides information on how it was created — will be attached to AI-generated images to indicate whether it was generated with Firefly or a partner model.

When the Content Credentials of an image on the canvas are selected, they display all the details about the image, including its source and AI information.
Check the Content Credentials of a generated image on the canvas to determine if it was created using Firefly or another partner creative model.
