Project assets

Assets work as an optional method of managing content in your scene so that you can iterate quickly on objects without constantly adjusting export settings. When you define an asset, Modeler remembers the export settings for that asset, so you can have a scene with dozens of assets, and each asset will remember its own export settings.

Assets can be accessed from the Project assets panel while in Export mode.

The video below gives a quick overview of how to use Project assets while in Export mode.

How can I define an asset?

Once you're ready to start exporting content from your scene, switch to Export mode, and open the Project assets panel.

  1. Select objects in your scene that you would like to export to a single file.
  2. In the Project assets panel, use the Define asset button.
  3. The Asset appears in the Project assets panel. While the asset is selected, any changes that you make to the export settings will only apply to the current asset.

Group and define asset versus Define asset

Sometimes the Define asset button may have different text, such as "Group and Define asset". This depends on how objects you have selected are organized.

Each asset in the Project assets panel corresponds with a group in the scene hierarchy. If the objects you select are not in a group, Modeler needs to group them before they can be defined as an asset. This will impact the hierarchy of your scene.

If you're concerned with how grouping objects might affect your scene, we recommend reviewing your scene hierarchy with the Outliner before grouping and defining assets.

Note:

Sometimes the Define Asset button may have different text, such as "Group and Define asset". This depends on how objects you have selected are organized.

Each asset in the Project assets panel corresponds with a group in the scene hierarchy. If the objects you select are not in a group, Modeler needs to group them first before they can be defined as an asset. This will impact the hierarchy of your scene.
