Substance 3D Modeler V1.7 Release notes
Version 1.7 overview
Version 1.7 brings an improved up-res algorithm, some quality of life features and various fixes.
Major features
Improved resolution increase algorithm
Increasing resolution now does a better job avoiding unintended artifacts.
The comparison above shows a simple cube and sphere intersecting each other. The new algorithm prevents artifacts appearing after increasing resolution, and results in a much smoother surface without an additional pass from the smooth tool.
Modeler V1.7 full release notes
Features:
- Implemented a new and improved upscaling algorithm. Increasing resolution now better maintains detail and form as a result.
- Added progress bars for boolean operations.
- Updated Unsaved changes dialog boxes to have clearer text and color coded buttons.
- Added a frame limiting option to the Project stats window. Limiting the framerate will help reduce CPU and GPU usage, and can help decrease temperatures, especially for laptop users.
Fixes:
- Handling of interior colors has been changed so that the removal tools now produce more reliable results. - Previously interior color values were compressed and stored at a lower resolution than clay, which could result in color artifacts when using the Erase tool.
- Now the Erase, Crop, and Split tools use the color from the Color picker when cutting away from existing clay.

- Fixed an issue where importing a mesh without a material but with vertex colors caused shader problems.
