Tag a file using Analyzer in Acrobat

Last updated on Aug 24, 2026

Tag a file to flag it for review and make it easier to filter within a collection.

Tagging applies a simple on/off state to a file. Use it when you want to create a temporary review set without changing the collection or creating an attribute. Other users who can access the collection can see and filter by your tags, but only the file owner can apply or remove them.

Before you begin

Make sure:

  • You can access the collection that contains the file.
  • You own the file. Only the file owner can tag or untag it.
  • Users with shared access can view tags and filter by them, but cannot apply or remove tags.

Tag a file

Open All files, or the collection that contains the file.

Locate the file using Search, File name, or Document title.

Select the Tag Document icon for the file.

The collection's file list with the "Tag Document" button highlighted.

As long as the file is tagged, a persistent tag remains visible on the file.

All files view showing a tagged file with the persistent tag icon displayed on the file record.
The tag icon remains with the file in All files, making tagged documents easy to identify wherever they appear in Analyzer.

What happens after you tag a file

  • The Tag Document icon changes appearance to indicate that the file is tagged.
  • The tag becomes available as a filter value.
  • You can filter the collection to show tagged or untagged files.
  • The tag remains applied until you remove it.
The Filter interface with the "Tag" filter selected and the "Condition" menu expanded.

When to tag a file

Use a tag when you want to:

  • Mark a file for follow-up during review.
  • Narrow a collection to a subset of relevant files.
  • Refine a review set by tagging, filtering, and untagging files as you work.
