2. CENTRAL EUROPEAN DICTIONARY SUPPORT

InDesign CS2 4.0.4 includes the updates from the original Central European Dictionary Update (posted in May 2005), which provides hyphenation and spelling support for seven Central European languages: Romanian, Slovenian, Croatian, Estonian, Lithuanian, Latvian, and Bulgarian. Note that the original Dictionary Update is no longer available separately.

3. RESOLVED ISSUES

This section provides a list of the resolved technical problems included as part of the

InDesign CS2 4.0.4 update. InDesign CS2 4.0.4 includes the cumulative fixes from all previous 4.0.x updates: 4.0.3 (posted June 2006), 4.0.2 (posted December 2005) and 4.0.1 (posted September 2005), as well as new fixes.

All new fixes are indicated with an asterisk (*) next to the bug number (e.g., [0000000]*).

Note that these issues are stated as the original problem statement, and not the corrected behavior. For general product usage and additional troubleshooting information, visit the Adobe Product Support Knowledgebase for InDesign at

http://www.adobe.com/support/products/indesign.html, or choose Online Support from the InDesign Help menu.

Important Notice:

The following fix was previously included in the 4.0.3 update but has been removed from 4.0.4 due to customer complaints:

After enlarging the canvas size of an image in Adobe Photoshop, the linked image does not en-large or scale correctly in Adobe InDesign CS2. The edited file with the new canvas size fills the content frame rather than the graphic frame of the placed image, making the image look smaller rather than larger. [1273425]

For more information regarding the above issue, please see the Technical Support documents on our Web site at http://www.adobe.com/support/techdocs/330428.html and http://www.adobe.com/support/techdocs/332757.html.

Performance

InDesign CS2 unexpectedly quits on launch at the point where the startup screen displays the text, "Starting up service registry". On Windows only, an error message may also appear. [1197389]

While opening a document with custom links in InDesign CS2, the image ICC profile data is

getting read unnecessarily, which causes a performance problem. [1193873]

InDesign CS2 unexpectedly quits when changing or refreshing the view of a spread containing a path with a width of zero. [1201478]

InDesign CS2 unexpectedly quits on launch on OS X.4 after a system reboot. This issue occurs intermittently. [1196466]

InDesign CS2 unexpectedly quits on launch if Font Preview is enabled and a font is installed that cannot be parsed by the application (Mac OS only). [1192802]

InDesign CS2 unexpectedly quits under certain conditions when opening a document that

triggers auto-activation for fonts. [1219964]

Performance in InDesign CS2 is degraded after 20 - 30 minutes of operation and each click/operation may take longer to respond (Windows only). [1282202]

Graphics

Inline graphic pasted from one InCopy story (.incd) to another is lost upon updating of that story in InDesign CS2. [1197638]

Lines with auto page numbers adjacent to inline graphics on master pages do not compose

correctly on the child pages if the page number or section name exceeds one digit or character. [1193690]

When InDesign CS2 opens an INX file or InCopy CS2 opens an assignment file that contains a placed image whose text wrap settings are set to Detect Edges, and if the image is missing, an incorrect rectangular offset will be used instead of the offset path as specified. The result is that an editor cannot write to fit in InCopy because the Text Wrap and image are missing. [1216583]

After placing multiple graphics containing gradients and transparency in InDesign CS2, portions of the artwork then drop out when printing if the clipping path and position of the gradients in the graphics match exactly. [1218027]

When exporting an InDesign document to EPS, the page number in the selection range is used (starting with "1") as the suffix for the resulting EPS file names instead of the actual page range entry. Also, Section numbers are unexpectedly added as prefixes to the numbers. [1206451]

After placing a raster image file (TIFF, JPEG, PSD, etc.) whose filesize is over several megabytes, exporting the document to EPS or printing may occasionally cause vertical streaks. [1273725]

After placing a Photoshop EPS file containing a clipping mask of 3 mm or less width in InDesign CS2, the clipping mask is missing. [1257600]

After changing the canvas size of an image in Adobe Photoshop, the images dimensions are then unexpectedly scaled in InDesign CS2 version 4.0.3 on relink or update of the image link. [1328528] *

JPEGs with missing JFIF data and that have a resolution other than 72 ppi appear as stretched when placed in InDesign 4.0.3. [1326055] *

Transparency

In low memory situations, printing or exporting to PDF an InDesign file with a placed EPS image that contains raster data will result in banding or pixel shifting if transparency overlays the EPS image. [1297652]

Text and Fonts

InDesign CS2 font auto-activation may conflict with third-party font auto-activation utilities on Macintosh, which results in fonts not being recognized under certain conditions. [1210680]

Note: The 4.0.4 update disables InDesign CS2s internal font auto-activation. If your workflows require the auto-activation of missing fonts, you will need to use a third-party font management utility that supports this functionality.

Inaccurate display of fonts in placed QuarkXPress 4.1 EPS files that have been "Optimized" by an Assura RIP occurs when viewed with High Quality Display in InDesign CS2. The EPS file

contains embedded fonts in a nested manner. [1115055]

InDesign CS2 hangs whenever an Adobe managed font folder contains a shortcut to any other folder. [1212208]

InDesign CS2 does not allow non-breaking spaces from participating in word spacing for Czech and Slovak languages. [1173184]

Text does not flow to next column in an Overset Text Frame in a Multi-Column frame with Text wrap intrusion. [1174395]

Checking spelling on some text strings may cause InDesign CS2 to unexpectedly quit. One

example is any text string in the format, <number><dash><uppercase character>, such as

"June 12-July 19". [1209817, 1212538]

After entering a line of text followed by carriage returns and then applying the Paragraph Rules "Rule Below" setting, the rules do not appear on the lines with carriage returns. [1208372]

InDesign does not properly display some Barcode font characters when copying and pasting from Microsoft Word or Excel to InDesign. The double quotation mark also usually does not display in Barcode font. [1233464]

After creating an assignment from linked text frames that contain an InCopy file with multiple styles, a single style is applied to all of the text. [1245899]

Optical Margin Alignment does not ignore zero width characters on the beginning of a line. For example, Optical Margin Alignment adjustments disappear if the Map Styles to Tag command causes an XML tag to fall at the beginning of a line. [1291466]

When a font family with multiple plain faces (Regular, Roman, Book, etc.) is used in styles, some-times the characters are incorrectly mapped. [1254443]

Glyph ID is mismatched and display unexpected characters in InDesign CS2 when using Utopia Type 1 + Utopia Expert fonts. [1254445]

If a text file is Placed or Semi-autoflowed (Alt+Click) into a master page frame on higher page numbers of a long document in InDesign CS2, the text is placed in the frame on the master page instead of the one on the normal page. [1311646] *

After copying and pasting text with different Basic Paragraph styles definitions, the pasted text has incorrect attributes applied. [1311051] *

Note: The following text bugs are for InDesign CS2 Japanese, Chinese Simplified, Chinese Traditional, and/or Korean only:

The proper glyphlet may not display if a document was created in a different environment and the glyphlet in it refers to glyphlets either no longer in the environment or newly added to the environment. [1224615]

Tab character and other Roman Space mojikumi class characters next to Japanese punctuation have different spacing in InDesign CS2_J compared to earlier versions. [1222780]

Composite fonts in InDesign CS2 Korean application map hangul to incorrect glyphs. (InDesign CS2 Korean only)[1224192]

A large empty space and/or line space is left behind after a paragraph containing paragraph

gyodori is created in InDesign CS2_J. [1219870, 1221645]

Unexpected Glyphlet is displayed if multiple glyphlets are embedded and the glyphlets were created based on the same character. (InDesign CS2 Japanese, Chinese Simplified, Chinese Traditional, and Korean only) [1228675]

If a document containing an unencoded glyph with history that a specific SING glyphlet has been deleted is then opened in InDesign CS2 on a system where that SING glyphlet is installed, the application unexpectedly quits. Additionally, a document will become bloated with unnecessary font "markers" (thus slowing down processing over time) if it contains at least one glyphlet that augments a font that did NOT get augmented in the current InDesign session. [1244218]

The warning dialog is not displayed when attempting to print or export an InDesign document before completing the augmentation of embedded glyphlets. [1229114]

Under specific conditions with some fonts, glyphlets used in a document are not being saved with the document in InDesign CS2. [1252128]

Updating the Adobe SING Glyphlet Manager in mid-session does not restore appearance of em-bedded glyphlets in an InDesign document. [1247957]

When setting Paragraph Styles with Paragraph Gyodori in InDesign CS2, an unexpected 1 line appears between paragraphs if previous line has line aki (intraline spacing) greater than 100% of the line height. [1244797]

Unexpected glyphlet is printed in the InDesign document when a similar glyphlet was already printed to the same RIP from a different machine. [1230546]

Certain Morisawa NewCID fonts are not found (e.g., are missing) when applying them from the Frame Grid dialog in InDesign. [1221319]

When using certain fonts in the Korean version of InDesign CS2, the font abruptly changes to the Gulim (the system default font) while typing on Windows. [1277982]

When copying and pasting a frame grid in InDesign CS2, the root style overwrites Kinsoku and Mojikumi settings as defined in the Application, Document, and local styles. [1310935] * Note: The fix for this issue only applies to new documents created after 4.0.4 is installed.

Layout

Frame grids do not honor default paragraph composer settings (Japanese, Chinese Simplified, Chinese Traditional, and/or Korean only). [1249930]

Tables

For some documents converted from InDesign 2.x, InDesign CS2 unexpectedly quits when opening the Table Strokes and Fill dialog with a table cell selected. [1265928]

Linking

Links that contain extended or accented characters and that were created in InDesign CS2 on Mac OS are broken when opening the document on Windows. Note: In order for this fix to work, you will also need to download and run the .exe file "MSIdnAPIsMP.EXE" from the Microsoft Web site at <http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=E289BB2C-D111-4331-8FB2-CC6C5A026C93&displaylang=en>. Open the folder labeled "x32/system" and then drag and drop the seven files contained within (two .dll and 5 .nls files) into your [root]\WIN-DOWS\system32 folder on your hard drive. Once this is complete and the 4.0.3 update or later is installed, the fix should work for both 32 and 64-bit machines. [1222600]

Import Text

Endnote numbers imported from Word/RTF documents in InDesign are changed into lowercase alphabetical characters instead of default number characters. [1118824]

When importing tagged text that contains a character set with kerning values of either Optical or Metric selected, the kerning value changes to 6000. [1262505]

Export Text

The KSC5601 value is missing from the Encoding drop-down list in the Export Tagged Text dia-log. [1251198]

PDF Export

Artifact tags in InDesign CS2 document are not correctly exported to PDF, causing Acrobat to fail the Full Accessibility check. [1274390]

When attempting to export an InDesign CS2 document containing a placed PDF file with many fonts (over 100), the application runs out of memory and unexpectedly quits. [1314058] *

When attempting to export an InDesign CS2 document containing a placed PDF file to PDF, EPS, or PostScript, the application returns the error, "The Adobe Print Engine has failed to output your data due to an unknown problem". [1294430] *

Conversion

Placed graphics unexpectedly and irregularly move to the back of the stacking order when opening a QuarkXPress document in InDesign CS2. [1232037]

Outlined text object in QuarkXPress document disappears after converting it into an InDesign CS2 document (Japanese only). [1232061; 1246261]

After converting a file that contains certain swatches/names from InDesign 2.x to InDesign CS2, the application unexpectedly quits in some cases with the following error: "Adobe InDesign is shutting down. A serious error was detected. Please restart InDesign to recover work in any unsaved InDesign documents." [1246803]

When opening specific InDesign 2.x files in InDesign CS2, the application unexpectedly quits in "paragraph composer.rpln". [1252627]

While generating an index in a converted PageMaker document, Adobe InDesign CS2 unexpectedly quits or hangs. [1205027]

Library files

InDesign CS2 unexpectedly quits when opening an INDL library file if the NoRecentDocsMenu registry key is set on Windows.[1209883]

Dictionary & Hyphenation

Incorrect hyphenation occurs in the German Reformed dictionary for specific words. [1214106]

InDesign CS2 unexpectedly quits when bringing up the Check Spelling dialog if all user dictionaries are on a server. [1289208]

After the first instance of adding words to the Removed Words list of the Dictionary in InDesign CS2, the Add button becomes inactive and user can not add any new words to the list.

[1298920] *

XML

InDesign CS2 unexpectedly quits after trying to map a style to a tag, if a grouped inline exists. [1210618]

InDesign CS2 unexpectedly quits when exporting a placed InCopy story as a snippet, if that story contains unresolved tracked changes including a deleted XML marker. [1221625]

Adding an XML tag to a page item that has a custom datalink causes InDesign CS2 to unexpectedly quit. [1290442]

Print

InDesign files containing a placed EPS with the customcolorimage operator, produce EPS files that cause RIPS to go into an endless loop. [1215447]

If the options for All Printers Marks and Include Slug Area are selected under the Marks and Bleed settings in InDesign CS2s Print dialog box, the Bleed and Trim marks are offset to Slug area when printed or exported to PDF. (InDesign Japanese, Chinese Simplified, Chinese Traditional, and Korean only) [1222267]

InBooklet SE

The InDesign CS2 4.0.4 update installs version 3.0.3 of InBooklet SE.

LiveEdit Workflow

InDesign CS2 unexpectedly quits when performing link updates for stories with nested styles definitions that contain semi-colons. [1179265]

Updating a linked InCopy story in InDesign CS2 takes a long time to process when the .indd document contains other stories with many inline graphics. [1179282]

InDesign CS2 stops responding when exporting multiple InCopy stories to an AFP server if any of the resulting generated filenames exceed 31 characters . The application may also return the error message, "Error - cannot copy the file [file name]. File name too long or invalid character." [1235236]

QuickTime

When attempting to place a QuickTime 7 movie file in InDesign CS2, the application returns the error, "Cannot place this file. No filter found for requested operation". [1192384]

Documents

After editing and saving a file in InCopy, the file loses all content and generates error messages when updating or attempting to re-open the file in InCopy. Additional Details: The file has incorrect file type and creator data. For example, the file type may be "TEXT" and the creator code "????" or the type and creator fields may be blank. The file may have been transferred from a Windows system to a Macintosh system or emailed to a Macintosh system through a Windows server. When attempting to relink the InCopy file to an InDesign document, the following error message is returned: "Import failed." When attempting to open the file in InCopy, the following error message is returned: "Cannot open the file [file name]. Adobe InCopy may not support the file format, or a plug-in that supports the file format may be missing." [1257768]

Error, "A serious error was detected; InDesign is shutting down" appears when opening or creating documents in InDesign CS2 on Mac OS. The ProtectiveShutdownLog also contains an error, "TinFonts:NewTinDocument - SING Librarys data base is probably corrupt because it failed when creating a document ID." [1267606]

InCopy document page size is not consistent between InDesign and InCopy files when opened in InCopy. This issue is apparent after performing subsequent edits in the InCopy .incx followed by opening the .indd document in InCopy. [1256943]

Shortcuts

InDesign CS2 returns the error, "Content contains characters that cannot be encoded" when attempting to assign a keyboard shortcut that contains CE characters, and the shortcut is not as-signed. [1278177]

INX

Entering certain characters as the first character in a tracked change of a checked out document and then checking the document in will result in document corruption as the document is up-dated. [1270850]Please see Appendix A of this ReadMe for additional important details regarding this bug fix.

Slow performance in InDesign CS2 when opening INX files (as well as INCX and Snippets) that have text runs with many different text attributes applied. [1310005] *

Plug-ins

InDesign CS2 unexpectedly quits if a dependent plug-in is not present. [1268399]

UI

The Color Picker dialog box in InDesign CS2 displays CMYK as "TMYK" (InDesign Swedish version only). [1300599]

Scripting

Shortcuts to scripts are lost if Cancel is chosen in the Shortcut Editor dialog. [1179314]

Can not set the margins of pages to values greater than 1000 points via scripting. [1189959]

Document.PageItems and Spread.PageItems script object collections dont include third-party page items derived from kSplineItemBoss. [1274909]

Can not set Autocorrect Preferences through scripting on Macintosh. [1275597]

4. EPS EXPORT HANDLING ISSUE [1253469]

There is a change in the EPS export handling after installing the InDesign CS2 4.0.4 Update. This occurs in cases where a multi-page document is exported to EPS, and where exporting would re-quire overwriting existing files. Under this scenario, the application displays an alert that asks the user whether to overwrite the existing files, then waits for the user to respond. Note: If you prefer to allow the application to overwrite files automatically, please add the following UserInteraction-Level property command to your script before the script does the EPS export, in order to suppress the alert:

app.scriptPreferences.userInteractionLevel = UserInteractionLevels.NEVER_INTERACT;

5. RESOLVED ISSUES FOR INDESIGN CS2 THIRD-PARTY DEVELOPERS

This section provides a list of the resolved technical problems included as part of InDesign CS2 4.0.4 Debug update only.

We have added service providers that allow responding to the beginning and end of packaging. Please download and install the updated header file "S4SPControlPlugInIDs.h" to get this change. This header file and other updates to the InDesign Family SDK are posted at https://partners.adobe.com/public/developer/indesign/sdk/index.html [1255542]*

Cannot assign or use the shift key as a keyboard shortcut modifier to launch a Script in InDesign CS2; instead the script is opened in Debugger mode. [1255651]*

When using the kSetItemLockDataCmd without the InCopyBridge plug-ins installed in

InDesign CS2, an assert in PageItemAdornmentList::InsertAdornmentNode() appears. [1196156]

CoreFileUtils::CopyFile() returns ˜true, indicating that it succeeded, but the file is not copied. [1204981]

Opening INX files containing references to third party custom text frame objects causes InDesign to assert and then do a protective shutdown. [1173111]

Text Lock Adornment is not redrawn correctly when the kTextLockAdornment implementation is used in InDesign CS2. [1176606]

After running an action that is part of the Action Automation Tool (distributed with the InDesign Tool Kit) that inserts text into a story, selecting that text, and then accessing a menu item (e.g., Convert Text to Table), the selected text is replaced by an "a" in InDesign CS2. [1170645]

The Info palette and Story Editor do not update correctly to reflect the appropriate number of words or overset lines in a text frame when using the new IOversetInformationExchange interface in InDesign CS2 [1225129]

Inline Graphics are lost after exporting text (in the format of incd) and then re-importing in either InDesign CS2 when third party calls InCopyWorkflow::ImportStory() where the first parameter was set to be the replaced story. [1238196]

After implementing InCopyBridge plugins by using the custom InCopyBridgeCmdSuite, the third party code is not called under certain circumstances when a story is checked out/check in/cancel checkout in InDesign CS2. [1241322]

InDesign CS2 returns an "Family Name null" assert on launch. [1196969] To prevent this

issue from happening, please rename the following InDesign preferences, using the below in-structions, after installing the InDesign CS2 4.0.2 Debug update. Note: Re-creating the InDesign preferences files restores the settings to their defaults.

To re-create the InDesign preferences files in Windows:

1. Quit InDesign CS2 Debug.

2. In Windows Explorer, open the following folder on your hard drive:

Documents and Settings/[username]/Application Data/Adobe/InDesign/Version 4.0

3. Select the "InDesign SavedData" file in this folder, and choose File > Rename.

4. Rename the file (for example, to "backup SavedData") so that you can restore it later if desired.

5. Repeat steps 3-4 with the files "InDesign Defaults" and "FontMaskCache".

6. Launch InDesign CS2 Debug. InDesign re-creates the preferences files.

To re-create the InDesign preferences files in Mac OS X:

1. Quit InDesign CS2 Debug.

2. In the Finder, open the following folder on your hard drive:

Users/[username]/Library/Preferences/Adobe InDesign/Version 4.0

3. Select the "InDesign SavedData" file in this folder and rename it (for example, to "backup

SavedData") so that you can restore it later if desired.

4. Repeat steps 3-4 with the files "InDesign Defaults" and "FontMaskCache".

5. Launch InDesign CS2 Debug. InDesign re-creates the preferences files.

Appendix A

This appendix contains more information regarding bug fix 1270850.

Original Issue

Entering certain characters as the first character in a tracked change of a checked out document and then checking the document in will result in document corruption as the document is up-dated. [1270850]

Problem Statement

The fix for this bug resolves the corruption problem, but also exposes a new issue: users will lose the related Tracked Change Record for the specific situations where the initial corruption occurs.

Note that when you encounter the case where track change records will be lost in the Debug build, you will see an assert of the form: ˜INXExport:ResolveExternalReferences() - Cannot find interface for Element "uadcinsf" [1285108]

Additional Information

Note that this fix only addresses new documents created after the 4.0.3 update or later is installed. All existing documents that were created prior to installing fix that are corrupted can not be fixed.

Here is a list of points that help explain when the Tracked Change Record will not be preserved as a result of this fix as well:

Definitions

Enumerated Characters

These are characters that users can insert in the text model by using the "Insert Special Character". They do not have a Unicode equivalent value in our text model today.

Tracked Change Record Anchors

Anchors are used to identify where in the text model a tracked change record is stored. For ex-ample, the Tracked Change Anchor for deleted text will be the first character following the deleted tracked change. For text that is added, there are 2 anchors - one at the beginning and one at the end - which are represented by the First and Last characters in the added text. For text that is moved, there are 3 Tracked Change Anchors created: 1) the Tracked Change Anchor is the first character following the deleted tracked change, 2) there are 2 Tracked Change Anchors created (a begin and end anchor) and which are represented by the First and Last characters in the added text.

Scenarios:

The corruption of InCopy incx documents is fixed in bug 1270850, but the Tracked Change re-cord is not preserved, if an enumerated character is used in the following manner:

- It is the first character following the deleted tracked change.

- The First and/or Last character in a tracked change added text.

All other scenarios where there are Tracked Changes and these enumerated characters are not in the text where the Tracked Change anchors will reside will be preserved as expected.
