Explore the capabilities of the AI Assistant in Adobe InDesign (Beta).
Explore the beta app
InDesign (Beta) is available for testing and feedback. Try it now to experience new features.
AI Assistant understands your document and design intent in real time. Instead of digging through tutorials, simply ask the AI Assistant, "How do I create a table of contents?" and learn as you go. Or save time by having it apply drop shadows to all images in your document.
- This feature is available only in English (North America) and English (International).
- Currently, you can use 25 prompts per day and 250 prompts per month.
- Explain and teach: You can find contextual help, including how to perform tasks and learn about tools and shortcuts. Try these sample prompts:
- How do I create a table of contents?
- Explain how parent pages work in InDesign.
- How do I check print readiness for this document?
- Set up and edit layouts: You can adjust positioning, formatting, and structure, create frames, align, distribute, group frames, create a flex layout, and more. Try these ample prompts:
- Create a grid for a three-column layout.
- Add page numbers to the footer.
- What is the margin of this document?
- Edit text and typography: You can generate text, update existing text, create, apply, and change character or paragraph properties. Try these sample prompts:
- Convert the selected text into bullet points.
- Add placeholder text to the selected text frame.
- Manage objects and graphics: You can create, place, and edit objects, update object links, apply effects, transform objects, and so on. Try these sample prompts:
- Add a drop shadow to all images.
- Apply color and styles: You can change the color of text, background, or border, create swatches, and more. Try these sample prompts:
- Apply RGB (0, 128, 128) to selected objects.
Write effective prompts
The AI Assistant works best when your prompts are clear and specific. You don't need special syntax or technical language. Write in plain, natural sentences, ask questions the way you'd ask a colleague. A few additional things to keep in mind:
- Be specific about what you want to change. Include details like measurements, values, and names when possible. If you're not sure of the exact value, for example, a margin width, ask first: "What is the current margin?" Then follow up with the edit.
- For text and object edits, selecting before you type your prompt helps the AI Assistant know exactly what to act on.
- Although the AI Assistant can handle certain multistep workflows in at single step, it's better to break complex tasks into steps and send them one at a time. This gives you the chance to review each result before moving on.
- If the first result isn't quite right, you can ask the AI Assistant to adjust. If a change isn't what you expected, use Edit > Undo (Ctrl + Z (Windows) or Command + Z (macOS)) to revert it.
- Use the thumbs up or thumbs down icons to rate responses. Your feedback helps us improve future results.
