Learn how to filter your Lightroom library and locate specific images or videos.

Filtering helps you quickly narrow large photo and video collections to find exactly what you need. Whether that’s highly rated images, photos from a specific camera, or videos recorded at a particular location.

In the Lightroom tab, select Filter .

In the FILTER BY panel, do either of the following:

  • Star Rating: Select the Star icon to filter by rating level, then select the Comparator icon to toggle between media rated higher than, lower than, or equal to a specific star rating.
  • Flag: Select Picked , Unflagged , or Rejected flags to filter by flag status.
  • Type: Select HDR, Image, Panorama, Raw, or Video category to filter media by file type.
  • Camera: Select from the camera make and model options detected in your photo and video metadata.
  • People: Select from the people clusters that Lightroom has detected in the People view.
  • Location: Select from the geographic locations extracted from your photo and video metadata
  • Keyword: Select a keyword from the list of keywords assigned to your media in Lightroom library.
  • Edited: Select Yes or No to filter media by edit status.
Tip

Filters applied while viewing an album are retained when you navigate to other views. Clear selected filters by selecting Cross in the filter token.

Note

If your trial has expired or you’re using the free version, only the Star Rating and Flag filters are available in the FILTER BY menu. The user interface will also differ from premium subscriptions.
