App stuck on Loading photos screen

Last updated on Jun 5, 2026

Resolve startup loading issues by force-quitting and restarting the app.

When Lightroom on iOS fails to complete its startup sequence, the app can become unresponsive on the loading screen, preventing you from accessing your photo library.

After tapping the Lightroom icon, the app displays the "Loading photos" message and remains on this screen indefinitely. The loading indicator may continue animating, but the app never progresses to the main library view. No photos appear, and you cannot interact with any interface elements.

The following solution addresses the most common cause of this startup issue:

The app's current session state has become corrupted or unresponsive, preventing normal initialization. After force-quitting and relaunching, Lightroom should load normally and display your photo library.

  1. Double-press the Home button (or swipe up from the bottom on devices without a Home button) to view all open apps
  2. Locate the Lightroom app card in the app switcher
  3. Swipe up on the Lightroom card to force quit the app
  4. Return to your Home screen and select the Lightroom icon to relaunch
  5. Wait for the app to complete its startup sequence

If the issue persists after force quitting, the problem may involve corrupted local data or sync conflicts. In such cases, try signing out and logging back to your Adobe account, or refer to Recovering Lightroom for mobile (iOS) photos for advanced recovery options. If the problem continues, contact Adobe Technical Support for assistance.
