Project Sunrise | How Project Sunrise works

The Sunrise pipeline

Project Sunrise is a powerful application that generates high quality 2D and 3D content, encourages collaborating around that content, and helps organize that content into a repository for future use. To understand how Sunrise achieves all of this, we'll break down each of the steps that go into taking a 3D file on your local machine, to a finalized content that you can add to your company's public presence.

Mesh, asset, project, publish

Each of these terms represents a step of the Sunrise pipeline.

  • Mesh: The textured model that represents one of your products, stored on your local machine. Upload this file to Sunrise to create an Asset.
  • Asset: An individual object that corresponds with one of your products. During this step, you can review the asset to ensure it's ready for use in projects.
  • Project: Use projects to generate 2D, 3D, and AR content from one or more assets. Modify and review the generated content before approving it for publishing.
  • Publish: Bring the content you've generated to your store for the best possible customer experience.

Each of these steps can be broken down further to get a more granular understanding of how Sunrise works.

Mesh

The Mesh step is primarily focused on preparing the files you already have for use in Project Sunrise. Sunrise requires a textured model to be uploaded as a single file, which is why Sunrise only supports formats like USDZ and GLB which allow this. Sunrise doesn't support formats like OBJ or STL that can't include textures or materials.

For best results with complex meshes, it's often useful to optimize manually to prepare the mesh for upload. This allows you to maximize detail in the areas that you want to focus on.

Asset

Once you've uploaded a mesh, it becomes an asset in Project Sunrise and is stored in the Asset library. Assets generate preview media so that you can review, modify, and approve them before they can be used in projects.

Project

With projects, you can convert assets into finalized content ready for publishing. Projects have 3 main components:

  • Assets: A project can have one or more assets, so you can generate cohesive, consistent media for a full collection or just a single product.
  • A template: Use a Sunrise provided template to achieve professional level lighting and staging that matches the style of your industry.
  • Shots: Choose specific camera angles for your final renders.

With these selected, Sunrise starts generating preview content that you can modify and review before giving final approval.

Publish

The publish step is focused on how to use the finalized 2D, 3D, and AR content that Sunrise generates.

Once a project is approved, Sunrise generates high quality final renders, QR codes, and embeddable 3D web viewers, so that you can start using generated content in your store, your social media, or other marketing avenues.
