Create geospatial PDFs

Last updated on Jun 7, 2026

Learn how to create a geospatial PDF from GeoTIFF and JPEG 2000 files in Acrobat.

GeoTIFF files and JPEG 2000 files are raster images that you can import as new documents or as new layers in an existing document. Acrobat preserves the geospatial coordinates embedded in these files, and the resulting PDFs retain their spatial data. The geospatial information supports tasks such as measuring features, finding locations, and reviewing mapped content in Acrobat.

Before you begin

Ensure that your GeoTIFF or JPEG 2000 file includes valid geospatial metadata. Acrobat uses this information to construct geospatial references inside the PDF.

Select Create from the Home view.

Select Single file and then choose Select a file.

In the dialog box that opens, locate and select your GeoTIFF or JPEG 2000 file.

Tip

To open multiple JPEG 2000 files, select Menu > Create > PDF from File. Choose the files and select Open. Acrobat merges them into one multi-page PDF.

Select Open, and then select Create. Acrobat opens the file as a geospatially enabled PDF.
