Specify privileged locations for trusted content

Last updated on Jun 7, 2026

Learn how to specify privileged locations in Adobe Acrobat so trusted content runs without security warnings.

Enhanced security allows specifying trusted locations for content such as files, folders, or domains. Content in these locations is deemed trusted. For example, while enhanced security blocks PDFs from accessing unknown websites, adding a site's domain to the trusted list allows data loading in Acrobat and Acrobat Reader. Learn more about Enhanced Security.

Configure trusted locations

Select Menu   (Windows) or File (macOS), and then select Preferences.

Select Security (Enhanced) from the Categories list.

Verify that Enable Enhanced Security is selected.

Under Privileged Locations, do one of the following:

  • Select Add File to trust a specific PDF file.
  • Select Add Folder Path to trust all files in a folder.
  • Select Add Host to trust content from a specific host domain.

Browse to or enter the location you want to trust, then select OK. The location is added to the privileged locations list.

(Optional, Windows only) Select Automatically trust sites from my Win OS security zones to trust sites already defined in your operating system. Acrobat applies trust based on your system settings.

Select OK to save your changes. Acrobat applies the updated privileged location settings.
