Unable to print selected area using the snapshot tool

Last updated on Jul 6, 2026

Learn how to print using the new Snapshot tool in Adobe Acrobat.

While working with PDFs in Acrobat, the Snapshot tool copies the selected area to your clipboard but does not keep it selected or let you print it directly. The new experience lets you mark up the selected area immediately after taking a snapshot, and the print option is moved to the preview notification.

To access the print option in the new snapshot experience, update Acrobat to the latest version by selecting Help > Check for updates.

Print from the snapshot preview

Open the PDF in Acrobat.

From the Quick action toolbar, select Take a Snapshot

In the preview notification at the bottom of the screen, select the Options   menu.

Acrobat screen shows a snapshot in preview with a highlight on the print option.
The new Snapshoot experience offers a quick preview of your selection and copies it to the clipboard.

Select Print  .

Note

To switch back to the legacy Snapshot tool that supports direct printing on Windows, select Menu > Preferences > General,  deselect Open snapshot for markup, and then select OK.
