Export security settings

Last updated on Jun 7, 2026

Learn how to export security settings from Adobe Acrobat so you can reuse or share them securely.

Exporting security settings lets you save trusted identities and related security configuration to a file. You can use the exported file to apply the same security setup on another system or share consistent settings across environments.

Before you begin

Ensure you have permission to manage security preferences in Acrobat, as an administrator may restrict some settings.

Select Menu   (Windows) or File (macOS), and then select Preferences > Security > Export. The Export Security Settings dialog box opens.

Choose which groups of settings you want to share and select OK.

Review and modify the security settings as needed. Acrobat exports the settings exactly as shown.

Clear any sections you don’t want to include before exporting the file.

Select Export. Acrobat prompts you to secure the exported settings file.

Choose how to encrypt the exported file, then select OK.

You can protect the file using password security, certificate security, or export it without encryption.

Set up or select a Digital ID if prompted to continue. Follow the on‑screen instructions to confirm the Digital ID. Acrobat verifies access to the security settings file.

Save the exported security settings file.

Acrobat confirms that the security settings were successfully exported.

Note

If you're using certificate-based security and no Digital ID is available, Acrobat prompts you to either select an existing Digital ID or create a new one.
