Find map locations on geospatial PDFs

Last updated on Jun 7, 2026

Learn how to find map locations in a geospatial PDF by entering latitude and longitude or other coordinate values.

When you open a geospatially enabled PDF, you can find locations, measure distances, add location markers, and copy coordinates to the clipboard using a web mapping service. Use the Geospatial location tool to view latitude and longitude when the cursor is over an area with geospatial information. It lets you add a geospatial annotation to mark a specific point and search for a location within the document.

Search for coordinates and mark locations

Open a geospatial PDF, then select All tools > Measure objects > Geospatial location tool.

Right-click inside the map and select Find a Location.

Geospatial PDF in Acrobat showing a map and latitude and longitude fields at the lower-right corner of the screen.
Check the latitude and longitude at the lower-right of the screen after finding a location.

Enter the latitude and longitude values. Use degrees, minutes, seconds, or decimal format.

Press Enter to find the location. If the location exists on the map, Acrobat highlights it with a blue square and centers the page on that position.

Select Next or Previous to browse additional matching locations if the PDF contains multiple maps or pages.

Select the location marker and enter a comment, such as a place name or address, in the comment box.

Right-click the highlighted location and select Mark Location to save it as a geospatial annotation.

Note

Multiple locations can occur with nested maps, such as a city map within a country map, or when coordinates appear on different pages.

Copy location coordinates for web mapping

Select All tools > Measure objects > Geospatial location tool.

Right-click the location on the map and select Mark Location.

Open the location annotation and copy the location information.

Paste the coordinates into a web mapping service that accepts latitude and longitude values. For example: 39.90183, -104.67091
