Acrobat compatibility warning for Rosetta on Mac with Apple Silicon

Last updated on Apr 23, 2026

Learn why macOS displays a warning about Acrobat compatibility on Apple silicon Macs, what it means, and how to switch between native and Rosetta modes.

When you open Acrobat on an Apple Silicon Mac running macOS 26.4 or later, you may see this system notification:

This version of "Acrobat" will not open in a future release of macOS. Learn how to update to an Apple silicon version.

This notification can be confusing and may make it seem like Acrobat doesn’t support Apple Silicon. Acrobat continues to work normally on your Mac. No action is required from your end.

Applies to

Acrobat DC and Acrobat Classic 2024 versions.

Cause

Acrobat supports Apple Silicon Macs and can run natively. However, Acrobat may run using Rosetta emulation in certain situations:

  • Installing or updating Acrobat
  • Using older third‑party plug‑ins or scanner drivers
  • Compatibility settings are carried over from an Intel‑based Mac
  • The Acrobat features you are using aren’t yet supported in native mode
  • Open using Rosetta is turned on for the Acrobat app

When this happens, macOS may show a Rosetta or compatibility warning even though Acrobat runs normally on your system.

Check whether Acrobat is running in native Apple Silicon mode or Rosetta

Open Finder and select Applications from the left panel.

Navigate to the Adobe Acrobat DC folder and open it.

Right-click Adobe Acrobat and select Get info

Under General, check for the Open using Rosetta option:

  • Unchecked: Acrobat runs natively on Apple Silicon.

  • Checked: Acrobat runs using Rosetta emulation.

Switch Acrobat to native Apple Silicon mode

Open Finder and select Applications from the left panel.

Navigate to the Adobe Acrobat DC folder and open it.

Right-click Adobe Acrobat and select Get info

Deselect the Open using Rosetta checkbox.

Close and relaunch Acrobat
