Discover website content

Last updated on Jul 27, 2026

Test a configured website crawl without uploading content to a collection.

Use Discovery Mode in the Knowledge Base Indexer to run a configured crawl and verify whether the Indexer can access and process the intended pages. Review the logs for discovered and processed pages, progress, warnings, errors, and completion status. Discovery Mode does not upload indexed content to Knowledge Base in Acrobat.

Before you begin

  • Install the Knowledge Base Indexer.
  • Configure the target URLs and crawl settings. See [Configure a website crawl].
  • Make sure the computer has an internet connection.
  • For a protected website, configure an Authentication URL before starting the crawl.

Discover website content

Open the Knowledge Base Indexer

Make sure Discovery Mode is selected.

  • Discovery Mode is selected by default.

Select Start

Monitor the logs until the crawl completes.

The logs display:

  • URLs being crawled.
  • Pages discovered and processed.
  • Progress information.
  • Errors and warnings.
  • Completion status.

Stop the crawl

Select Stop to end the crawl before it completes.

How it works

Discovery Mode runs the configured crawl without uploading the processed website content to a collection.

The Indexer follows the target URLs according to the configured crawl settings and reports its activity in the logs. Use the discovered and processed page information to evaluate whether the crawl scope matches your intent before switching to Upload Mode.

Best practices

  • Use Discovery Mode before uploading content to a collection.
  • Review the logs for inaccessible pages, warnings, and errors.
  • Review the discovered and processed pages to evaluate the crawl scope.
  • Adjust the crawl settings when the discovered scope does not match your intent.

Things to know

  • Discovery Mode does not upload content to a collection.
  • You do not need to select a destination collection.
  • Discovery Mode does not require you to sign in to Knowledge Base in Acrobat.
  • Invalid URLs and crawl errors appear in the logs.
  • Protected websites may require an Authentication URL.
