Ask questions, explore selected sources, and continue saved conversations from the Collections page.
The AI Assistant in Knowledge Base in Acrobat helps you explore collections, files, AI knowledge, and publicly available web information through a conversational interface.
The AI Assistant appears as a panel beside the collections list on the Collections page. It does not open as a standalone chat page. You can select source content, enter prompts, review generated responses, and return to saved conversations without leaving the Collections workspace.
How the experience works
The chat experience combines four main elements:
- Sources provide the information used to answer your prompts.
- Chats preserve your prompts, responses, and conversation context.
- Response preferences influence how the AI Assistant reasons and presents its answers.
- Citations connect generated information to supporting files or webpages.
A blank conversation becomes a saved chat after you submit its first prompt. The system generates a name from the conversation, and the chat remains private to you.
Start or resume a chat
You can start a chat from the + New menu, the Chats page, or an open AI Assistant panel.
The Home page also provides:
- Resume chat for the most recently active conversation
- The five most recently used chats
- View all chats for opening the complete chat history
New and resumed chats open on the Collections page with the AI Assistant panel displayed.
Choose the information to use
The source selector provides three source types:
- Collections uses one or more selected collections.
- AI Knowledge uses the model’s built-in knowledge.
- Web searches publicly available web information or works with a URL you provide.
You can also add files from your computer directly to the current chat.
Only one source type is active at a time. You can switch among Collections, AI Knowledge, and Web as the conversation continues. The chat retains the earlier conversation context when you change sources.
Adjust how responses are generated
Use the prompt composer controls to select:
- A reasoning mode for how the AI Assistant approaches the request
- A Style for the amount and type of detail
- A Tone for the response voice
- A Format for how the answer is organized
These preferences remain active across chats until you change them. Resuming an older chat keeps your current preferences rather than restoring those previously used in the conversation.
Review supporting sources
Responses based on collection or web content can include citations.
- Collection citations open the source file in the same browser tab and highlight the relevant content.
- Web citations open the cited webpage in the same browser tab.
After reviewing a source, select the Back arrow to return to the chat.
Citations remain part of the saved conversation when you resume the chat or change its active source.
Find and manage previous chats
Use the Home page for quick access to your latest and most recently used chats.
Use the Chats page to:
- Search chat names and conversation content
- Open saved conversations
- Rename chats
- Permanently delete chats
Chats are ordered by most recent activity, with the most recently used chat first. Deleted chats cannot be recovered.
