Understand how FUP, generative credits, and Shared Credits determine how Knowledge Base in Acrobat usage is metered.
Knowledge Base in Acrobat uses different metering methods depending on the user's access and the action performed. Licensed Acrobat Studio for enterprise users receive a monthly Fair Use Policy (FUP) allowance for supported queries. Other metered activity consumes generative credits from an organization-level pool available through Shared Credits.
Understand how usage is measured
Knowledge Base uses two separate measures of usage: queries and generative credits.
A query is a question or prompt submitted through a supported Knowledge Base query experience.
Generative credits are units consumed by metered Knowledge Base activity.
How an activity is metered depends on the user's access and where the activity is performed.
Fair Use Policy
Each licensed Acrobat Studio for enterprise user receives a Fair Use Policy (FUP) allowance of 1,000 queries per month.
The FUP allowance:
- Belongs only to the licensed user and cannot be shared.
- Resets each month.
- Does not accumulate or carry over to the next month.
- Applies to supported queries through the Knowledge Base AI Assistant and PDF Spaces.
- Does not apply to Slack or Microsoft Teams queries.
- Does not apply to document ingestion.
When a licensed user consumes all 1,000 FUP queries, additional eligible AI Assistant and PDF Spaces queries consume generative credits.
Generative credits and Shared Credits
Generative credits are the units consumed when Knowledge Base activity is metered by credits.
Shared Credits is the Adobe offering that provides eligible users with access to an organization-level pool of generative credits. Users with access to Shared Credits draw from the same organizational pool when they perform supported metered activities.
Generative credits are used for:
- AI Assistant and PDF Spaces queries after a licensed user's FUP allowance is exhausted.
- Slack and Microsoft Teams queries.
- Queries from non-Studio users.
- Document ingestion.
- Supported API activity.
FUP queries and generative credits are separate measures. A query that counts against FUP does not also consume generative credits.

Understand generative credit rates
When an activity is metered using generative credits, the following rates apply:

For licensed Studio users, AI Assistant and PDF Spaces queries consume generative credits only after the user's monthly FUP allowance is exhausted.

A licensed Studio user with access to Shared Credits can create and manage collections, ingest documents, use supported Studio query experiences, and query through Slack and Microsoft Teams.
AI Assistant and PDF Spaces queries
The first 1,000 supported queries each month count against the user's FUP allowance.
While FUP remains, these queries do not consume generative credits.
After the monthly FUP allowance is exhausted, each additional eligible query consumes 50 generative credits from the organization's generative credit pool.
Slack and Microsoft Teams queries
Slack and Microsoft Teams queries never count against FUP.
Each query consumes 50 generative credits from the organization's generative credit pool, even when the user still has FUP queries available.
Document ingestion
Document ingestion never counts against FUP because ingestion is not a query.
Each ingested document consumes 150 generative credits from the organization's generative credit pool.
Users who create collections and ingest documents therefore need access to Shared Credits.
A licensed Studio user without access to Shared Credits can use supported AI Assistant and PDF Spaces experiences through their monthly FUP allowance.
These users receive 1,000 FUP queries per month.
They cannot:
- Ingest documents.
- Query through Slack or Microsoft Teams.
After the user's monthly FUP allowance is exhausted, additional metered queries require access to Shared Credits.
Non-Studio users do not receive an FUP allowance.
A non-Studio user with access to Shared Credits can query content through supported Knowledge Base experiences, including the AI Assistant, Slack, and Microsoft Teams.
Each supported query consumes 50 generative credits from the organization's generative credit pool.
These users cannot:
- Create or manage collections.
- Create connectors.
- Configure Slack or Microsoft Teams chatbots.
- Ingest documents.
Non-Studio users without direct access to Shared Credits do not receive an FUP allowance.
When supported read-only access is available, these users can query content without having direct access to Shared Credits. The collection owner's access provides the generative-credit backing for those queries.
Each supported query consumes 50 generative credits from the generative credit pool available to the collection owner.
These users cannot:
- Create or manage collections.
- Create connectors.
- Configure Slack or Microsoft Teams chatbots.
- Ingest documents.
A Technical Account requires an Acrobat Studio for Enterprise seat and access to Shared Credits.
Technical Account activity does not use FUP. Supported API activity consumes generative credits from the generative credit pool associated with the Technical Account.
