Open citations to review the files and webpages that support an AI Assistant response.
The AI Assistant includes citations when it uses collection content or information from the web. Review citations to identify the source of an answer, open the supporting content, and determine whether the source supports the generated response.
Citations remain part of the saved chat when you resume the conversation or change its active source.
Review a citation from a collection
When the AI Assistant uses content from a collection, citations connect the response to the supporting source file.
Select the citation.
The source file opens in the same browser tab with the relevant content highlighted.
Review the highlighted passage and its surrounding context.
Select the Back arrow to return to the chat.
Review a web citation
When Web is the active source, citations link the response to publicly available webpages in a new tab.
Locate a citation in the generated response.
Select the citation.
The cited webpage opens in a new browser tab.
Review the webpage and confirm that it supports the information in the response.
Select the Back arrow to return to the chat.
A web response can cite multiple webpages when the answer uses information from more than one source.
Review citations in a saved chat
Citations remain available when you resume a saved conversation.
Open the saved chat from the Home or Chats page.
Locate the earlier response.
Select the citation you want to review.
Review the source in the same browser tab.
Select the Back arrow to return to the chat.
Collection citations open the supporting file and highlight the relevant content. Web citations open the cited webpage.
Review citations after changing sources
You can change sources without removing citations from earlier responses.
For example, when you remove a collection from the active selection:
- The AI Assistant stops considering that collection for future responses.
- Earlier prompts and responses remain in the saved chat.
- Citations already included in those responses remain part of the conversation.
Similarly, switching from Collections to AI Knowledge or Web does not remove citations from responses generated with an earlier source.
Things to know
- Citations identify the content used to support a response, but they do not guarantee that the response is complete or correct.
- Review the cited passage and its surrounding context before relying on important information.
- Collection citations open the source file with the relevant content highlighted.
- Web citations open the cited webpage.
- Citations remain available when you resume a chat.
- Removing a collection from the active selection does not remove earlier responses or citations.
- When a collection or file is deleted, or you lose access to it, the AI Assistant no longer considers it for future responses.
