Reduce PDF file size

Last updated on Oct 16, 2026

Reduce the size of one or more PDFs to make them easier to share, upload, and store.

The Reduced Size PDF feature creates a smaller copy of your PDF. Smaller files require less storage space, transfer faster, and are easier to send by email or upload to websites and cloud services. You can also choose which Acrobat versions should support the reduced-size file.

Reduce the file size of a PDF

Windows

Select Menu > Save as Other > Reduced Size PDF.

In the dialog box that opens, select an Acrobat version from the Make compatible with menu. Choose a version that everyone who uses the PDF can open.

Select OK.

Choose a location, enter a filename, and then select Save.

macOS

Select File > Save as Other > Reduced Size PDF.

In the dialog box that opens, select an Acrobat version from the Make compatible with menu.

Select OK.

Choose a location, enter a filename, and then select Save.
