Format text with chat
Change font, size, color, spacing, and style of PDF text with AI Assistant in Acrobat using plain language.
When your PDF needs a formatting change, the AI Assistant recognizes how your text is styled and how your document is structured, so you can describe what you want in plain language, and it applies the change for you. You can ask the AI assistant to format text by what it means or by how it looks, such as turn all headings to red text, and the AI Assistant restyles it, shows you a preview, and confirms with you before updating the text at any instance.
You can perform the following tasks with the AI Assistant:
- Change font style: Make text bold, italic, underlined, or strikethrough.
- Change font size, color, or family: Adjust how the text appears on the page.
- Change spacing and indentation: Adjust line spacing, paragraph spacing, or indentation.
Format text with chat
Select AI Assistant in the top bar to open the chat panel.
In the chat field, describe the formatting change in plain language. For example:
- For font style: Make all product names bold or underline the section headings.
- For size, color, or family: Change all headings to 14pt, make all legal disclaimers red, or change the body text to Arial.
- For spacing: Change line spacing to 1.5 throughout.
Select Submit.
Review the highlighted text and the count of matches that AI Assistant found in the chat panel.
Select Replace or Accept based on your request to apply the change or select Skip to move to the next instance.
To undo the action performed by the AI Assistant, select Undo from the top bar.
Find text by color or style
The AI Assistant can find text by its appearance, such as its color, style, size, or highlighting, and then apply a change to it. This helps when the text you want to update shares a common appearance rather than a common meaning. For example, you can ask the AI Assistant to:
- Find all red text to identify text by color.
- Find all bold headings to identify text by style.
- Find all highlighted text to identify text by its highlight.
Once the text is identified, you can apply a formatting change in the same request. For example, ask the AI Assistant to change all red text to black or set all bold headings to 16pt.
If a change does not run as expected, add more detail to your prompt, such as specific wording, section names, or page numbers. If a tool does not support chat editing, the AI Assistant provides step-by-step guidance instead. If the problem persists, check common issues and their fixes.
