Reactivate an inactive Adobe subscription

Last updated on Jan 27, 2026

Learn what happens when your subscription fails to renew, and how you can reactivate an inactive subscription.

Your Creative Cloud subscription fails to renew when your payment doesn’t go through. This can happen if your card has expired or has insufficient funds, or your bank has blocked the transaction. When this happens, Adobe tries to process the payment multiple times after the due date. If all attempts fail, your subscription becomes inactive.

We may continue trying to process your payment methods for the remainder of your subscription term, and upon receipt of your payment, your full subscription account access will be restored. To avoid any interruptions, update your payment information in your Adobe account.

You can easily restart your inactive subscription by manually reinitiating the payment. Learn how to fix a failed or missed payment.

You can also start fresh by purchasing a new subscription:

Go to the Creative Cloud plans page, and sign in with your Adobe ID.

Navigate to the plan you want to buy, and choose Select or Buy now in the plan card.

Follow the onscreen instructions to complete your purchase.

Once payment is accepted, open the Creative Cloud desktop app.

Select the Account icon in the upper-right, and select Sign out.

The Account icon, available at the top-right corner of the screen, provides the option to sign out from the Creative Cloud desktop app.
Signing out from your Adobe account refreshes your license information.

Sign back in to refresh your license and start using your apps again.
